Zarqawi denounced by his own family, tribe. posted by toma (19 comments total)
good to know, I'll keep that in mind. posted by furiousxgeorge at 3:29 AM on November 21, 2005
I received an 'error loading' page from the Jordan Times.
But you can get related articles from Google, and then some.
An interesting angle of the story is the denouncement of Zarqawi by the bedouin tribe he belonged to. The concept of tribes is apparetly an important aspect of the socio-cultural and political make-up of Islamic civilizations.
I think letting the King of Jordan know in advance that Zarqawi would attempt to assassinate (or regicide) him was very gentleman-like. Quite the good show of civilité.

A little late, don't you think? Or is this just because they started bombing jordanians? posted by delmoi at 6:22 AM on November 21, 2005

The military still doesn't know, but they're guessing he probably wasn't. posted by unreason at 6:52 AM on November 21, 2005
Juan Cole isn't cetain he even exists. posted by jmgorman at 7:17 AM on November 21, 2005
I tend to agree with Mr. Cole in this rare instance. Well, he probably doesn't matter with respect to Iraq, but he does have a hate for Jordan that won't be continued with successors. posted by loquax at 7:19 AM on November 21, 2005
Gee, I would have thought his Jordanian family would have come out as public supporters of the terrorist bombings in Jordan. posted by stbalbach at 7:53 AM on November 21, 2005
Ah, using nouns as verbs is the affliction of a simple language that does not conjugate. You poor anglosaxons. posted by jouke at 9:36 AM on November 21, 2005
Isn't tribalism worse than terrorism? posted by b_thinky at 4:39 PM on November 21, 2005
