You can save time and money by adding industrial waste in the fodder. Oils, sewage and other shit are not very good for the cows’ health but they are so convenient.

If memory serves regarding Fast Food Nation, it's not that the shit and garbage is added intentionally so much as it would cost a lot of time and money to ensure that it's kept separate from the meat product. You'd have to slow down the slaughter line, hire someone to spray away anything leaking form the burst intestines, etc. Bad translation I guess.
