You may have meant this link for the Sastre saber slaying... although I still have no idea what it means. posted by Squid Voltaire at 2:55 PM on March 10, 2006
I did mean that link. Sastre's film seems to be somewhat bitter over Barney's success and Sastre's obscurity, and plays it out as some sort of epic postmodern duel between the two. posted by jrb223 at 2:56 PM on March 10, 2006
oops. and the Iberoamerican trilogy link should go here. posted by jrb223 at 2:57 PM on March 10, 2006
Matthew Barney is a pretentious hack. posted by stenseng at 5:12 PM on March 10, 2006
matthew barney is NOT a hack. pretentious? I won't try to argue against it. I'm a fan, but there's plenty of room for believing he's pretentious. but a hack? not remotely. the man's cinematographic technique is beautiful and various (which is another way of saying he's a virtuoso) and his set and costume design is AT LEAST a cut above your average hack, whether you like the final product or not.
but sastre is REALLY jealous because he's not married to bjork.
either way, I really wish I weren't broke. I desperately want to see this. posted by shmegegge at 5:22 PM on March 10, 2006
