Ants creep me out. Ever since I was a little kid I've had this recurring dream where I notice that a freckle or mole on my leg has started moving, and as the dream progresses the spot gets darker and larger until at last a hole opens in the flesh around it and the spot is revealed to be an ant, which then climbs out of the hole in my leg. posted by mr_crash_davis at 11:21 AM on March 22, 2006
Oh great. Now I have my nightmare for the next week. Thanks, crash. (j/k) posted by raedyn at 11:28 AM on March 22, 2006

Sure, ants are cool, but anteaters are even cooler. I would like it if the museum intermittently unleashed a giant anteater on the colony. That would keep things interesting.
Crittercams are always cool. I still prefer the ottercam though. posted by Gator at 12:04 PM on March 22, 2006

YES!
Although... I was hoping for a larger, hill-wide view, this makes them all seem very.... sinister. and it's dark. posted by BlackLeotardFront at 12:41 PM on March 22, 2006
It's nighttime there but when it's daytime in England the cam is bright. posted by thirteenkiller at 12:58 PM on March 22, 2006
"mcd, you've been channeling Un Chien Andalou all this time!"
What is freakish about the ants at London Zoo is that they're essentially out in the open. I don't know how much you can see on the link (it's not playing on my computer) but basically they have two separate sections, each surrounded by water - a little fungus nest thing and then a plant on the other side - these 'islands' are connected by a rope over which the ants clamber from plant to nest and back again. The rope is suspended over an abyss (or an ant sized abyss, it's really about human waist height), and there is nothing around it. Which means that when ants fall off (and they do) they fall onto the ground. Where there are people. It weirds me out when I go there, because I'm terrified they might climb up my trouser leg. yes, ants are cool
Yet under my magnifying glass they appear quite hot. posted by CynicalKnight at 3:27 PM on March 22, 2006
