I must second the Butthole Surfers Double Live. Awesome sounds...used to have it on a couple of cassettes.

What, no batshitinsane tag?
Only kidding, I like BJM. Saw them twice. One sparsely attended pre-Dig when Anton got wasted and Matt Hollywood had to hide the bottle of whiskey he'd been swigging from all night. It was a great show. One post-Dig where the place was packed and most people acted like they were there just to see Anton to do some serious flipping out. He didn't and I'm glad that he disappointed all those people who were only there to see the spectacle of Anton. That was a good show, too.

Slashot effect on the BJM files? I can't get much to actually download from that site...

I bought the Independent Wormhole Saloon when it came out because I was into Ministry, and Gibby had guested on Jesus Built My Hotrod. I thought it was OK, if uneven. A bit after that, I found the Double Live on cassette in a coworker's car and borrowed it while doing magazine delivery on a hot day. It was awesome and amazing, and I felt like I finally got why people liked the Buttholes so much.

I've seen the BJM page before, and it's the kind of thing that makes me love and hate the internet. LOVE because it puts all of this great band's output in a single place and will surely bring them the new fans that they deserve; HATE because, goddammit, mp3s sound like flange-y, moist farts.

actually, that's not every BJM album... aside from that, you're really only getting the music for free, not the album.

Dr. Wu - I think anton encodes it mostly into ogg vorbis, not mp3

I linked a BJM page before that had everything on it but it was different--had a lot of live stuff too. I think MeFi killed that one.
Some excellent live bootlegs of other bands on rbally.net (which I posted to the blue a few months ago, but which I continue to find great stuff on).
I'm currently in an email campaign to get a bunch of my fave bands to donate exclusive track for my upcoming entry in the blogathon. It's slow going and a lot of begging. Seeing sites like these are great and make me more optimistic for the slog in the days ahead.

Anacrusis and Love/Hate (careful - noisy flash page) have put up free mp3s of their old albums. I like the trend of defunct bands making their back catalogue freely available.

Thanks for the post klangklangston. Anton lived in my basement for a few weeks when he temporarily moved BJM up to Portland. He seemed like an OK guy (especially in light of the way he was potrayed in Dig), but I never got to see them live or hear any of their albums.

When my last band broke up, I suggested we do just this and everyone else thought it was a stupid suggestion, I still don't see why.

Very nice. Now I don't suppose anyone remembers which BJM song is playing on the menu for the DiG! dvd, do they? I don't remember anything about it except that I love it.

I highly recommend checking out Mr. Vanderslice - very clever stuff indeed. Plus he's a really nice guy.

If you haven't seen Dig!, the doco about BJM and the Dandy Warhols, you should. It's good, but it did make me look a little askance at BJM afterwards, unrepentant fuck-ups that they are/were.

That is the worse Jad Fair record I've ever heard. Please, if you haven't heard Jad or Half Japanese, don't judge him by this free album...

Ha! Also, if you've heard some Jad solo or some Half Jap, don't judge him by that either... (He's a hometown hero, but not always great).
