Adrienne Shelly was murdered.
I was shocked to find this out yesterday. She was a great indie staple. Horrifying.

Well, the contextual ads are in very bad taste. It's all "Tickets to Annie" or "Join the police force and prevent crimes with an odd off-broadway reference". But still, NBOTW

Shocking and just - I dunno - a complete waste. The guy lashed out because he didn't want to get deported. Idiot.
Poor Adrienne.

"The guy lashed out because he didn't want to get deported."
While it's a possibility that the murderer is an illegal immigrant, the article doesn't mention that fact. Perhaps we should avoid jumping to that conclusion at this point.

Poor woman. I have no idea who she is, but I'm sorry for her.

NY Post reports:
A native of the city of Cuenca, Pillco arrived in the United States in the summer of 2005 after paying smugglers $12,000 to sneak him over the Mexican border, law-enforcement sources said.
Fearing he had killed her, and that he would be deported, he wrapped a bed sheet around her neck and dragged her body into the bathroom, where he attached one end of the sheet to a shower-curtain rod, sources said.
So there's the motivation to resort to violence. Panic because the cops would have come. No doubt mixed in with anger because she talked back to him. Some people, like goldfish, can only think two seconds ahead.
Idiot.

This is shocking and horrible. The Unbelievable Truth and Trust are two of my favorite films. She will live on through all of the great movies she's been a part of.

I hate how these kinds of stories always end with a neighbor or friend saying the murderer is "a good kid," "a nice guy," or "wonderful person."
Obviously not.

Yeah, how do they always manage to find some idiot to provide the requisite quote? "Say, do you know that guy who strangled the actress the other day?" "Oh yeah, him? He's a good kid!"
And why is it so important to get that quote, anyway? Maybe the first time someone volunteered it (back in the 18th century?) it had that man-bites-dog frisson, but now it's just like typing -30- at the end: it's just what we do.

Note that the cops found the guy via a single footprint in a bathroom that had been trampled through by numerous people after the death -- which was assumed a suicide by everyone but her family.
Would make a boring CSI episode, but pretty amazing.

<sarcasm>Dammit! If only the Border Wall had been in place, none of this would have happened!</sarcasm>
Seriously: if the threat of facing deportation hadn't been so horrific, perhaps he wouldn't have lashed out so forcefully against an unarmed, 5'2" 110lb (that's a guess to make a point, but she was always quite thin) person...and then taken the extreme "precaution" of stringing her up and faking a suicide...
Really, isn't it time something was done about immigration laws/enforcement?
nathancaswell: what do you mean?
