Since January 1st, men in Shamrock, TX, have been working on their Donegal beards and today they were judged on how they did. Missed it? Maybe you can watch the documentary by Mike Woolf or listen to a song(mp3) from the soundtrack by The Gourds.

Damn. I live about 90 minutes from Shamrock and this is the first I've heard about it. Guess that's what I get for ignoring our local birdcage liner.

I gave The Gourds a tour of The Mystery Spot, the day of the concert I was going to. I love them too, as well as Kev Russell's Junker. Favorite song = Somebody Bring Me a Flower, I'm a Robot.

I worked ar a video store in Austin in the late '90's, and I distinctly remember one of the Gourds being a customer. His memory doesn't stick because I liked their music, but rather for his goofy (what I know know is called a Donegal) beard.
