I just saw a GameSpot employee wearing a tshirt with 'Uncle Muscle's Hour' written across it.

Not only is it "Uncle Muscle's Hour," it's also "Not Funny." Or maybe I just don't get. That's it. I just don't get it.

I love Tim and Eric so much. I'm guessing MetaFilter won't though. But yeah I'll give you the thumbs up for this .

The only decent thing about the show is Brule's Rules. Everything else is saddled with the prerequisite that you must be stoned while watching.

I enjoyed this, but it, not unlike a fried candy bar at a state fair, is an acquired taste.

You know, I used to be considered moderately weird, but the world has completely overtaken me. And then some.

It's meta-comedy, right? Like, there's some subtext that makes it funny. Some INSIDE joke.
Tell me so I can laugh.

Tim has such a lovely singing voice. I suspect if I had those songs on CD I could clear a room when the party was over, though.

flotson, as you seem to be serious, I must refer you to my magnum opus on the matter.

I'm more of a B'owl man myself (comes right after Hacky Sack Extreme), but Uncle Muscles is pretty sweet too.

flotson, as you seem to be serious, I must refer you to my magnum opus on the matter.
Magnum Opus read. Point taken, but I'd like to point out, as did another poster in that conversation, that I'm not bitching about YouTube per se, but about the way in which this preponderance of video chunklets threatens to suck the creativity out of what can otherwise be a pretty happening discourse. I will cry if here, too, we're all reduced to what my brother refers to as "remembering TV". Discussion is what I love and expect from MeFi. Let us be vigilant against mere passive entertainment, and discourse that goes no farther than to register whether video chunklet X was cool or sucked.
I return once again to the prefix, meta-. Context is what makes MeFi interesting, sharper and more relevant than YouTube et. al. Rather than serving as passive entertainment (which is either cool or sucks) videos can be discussed as cultural artifacts, that is, they can, and generally do, have meaning beyond their content. That's the meta- part. I suggest as something of a standard that it's the FPPer's job to get the ball rolling on this meta- part. You know, give us some context about the content of the video, you know, DVD special features sort of stuff. Or link the content to other similar or contrasting, or in someway relevant content. What I object to is being handed yet more media to consume thoughtlessly. That is most definitely NOT what I come to MeFi for.

Plate of beans, flotson. I agree that one of the main draws of the site is the context and thought which is given to some of the meatier topics for discussion here. However, I think there is also plenty of room for random bits of silliness, stuff that on its own merits is weird, crazy, and doesn't require framing and/or context beyond calling out the identifier. Hence, a post like this.
You make it plain that you definitely do NOT come to MeFi for this type of thing, but then you just blew a whole lot of hot air and self-importance into a thread that is beneath your notice. If it's really that much of an issue for you, take it to MeTa, and let the whole community benefit from your mission.

I like how "plate of beans" has become a generic lighten-up statement.
As for Uncle Muscle... it kind of works as a parody of ultra-bad (not Superbad) public access television. But I don't think it's worthy of idolization or anything.

TG: Look man, you post a few videos, with no context whatsoever--and MeFi becomes nothing more than channel surfing, IMO.
This is a subject I'm passionate about--not MeFi per se, but the role of TV in (what remains of our) culture--but it was not my intention to have some sort of nasty argument with you.
