Joey Lawrence. No, not that one.
Is it the overdesigned artist site we're "whoa"ing about? Which asks you to turn off popup blockers and resizes your browser to show you corny pics?
Sorry to snark. I must also confess ignorance of the other Joey Lawrence. Which presumably makes me a loser.

It's the gallery website of a photographer.
I didn't disable my popup blocker and nothing blew up, and I was able to see the whole site.

Well said.

Holy dodge and burn, Batman, there's photoshop afoot!
Seriously, some of the photos under "photojournalism" are nice, but the others with the faux worn edges and grain are meh.

I'm actually curious (and prone to straying off topic) - what do you (or anyone) think a well-designed photographer's site would look like?

Spare, easily navigated, necessary information handy, with nothing distracting from the work.

All of you spent so much time bitching about the flash-heavy site, that nobody noticed:
Mr. Lawrence is SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD.
Were ANY of you geniuses doing that calibre of photography (or anything else) at age 17 ??
You people disgust me.

It explains a lot about his photos. While I think they're very pretty, they're also totally trite.

Yes. Only I wasn't privileged, so none of it mattered.

At some point, the kids who have been messing around in Photoshop making icons and banners for their Livejournal fan communities are going to start asking their parents for dSLRs and a legal copy of the software, maybe hook up with some bands they met on MySpace or take a trip around the world. This is the result, it's purely perfunctory, but at least he's getting some kind of paid work out of it.

Someone likes Mark Tucker's and Jim Fiscus' work a little too much.
With that said, I wish I had been pushing my potential at 17 instead smoking dope and skateboarding.

He's pretty good, but I don't put much weight on his age. I started designing websites at around 16-17 (which would've been in '96) - but the technology for doing so wasn't quite so accessible to a younger me. Hand-coding 8-bit games on my Commodore 64 at age 8, however, was.
His age shows through in his "make an artistic statement" photos, where he not only explains the photos that don't need explaining (like the jesus/bunny or the man facing death ones), but his subject matter tends to be of the "whoa. so deep." variety that only 17 year olds would think "whoa. so deep." about. Likely, his friends polish that ego a bit, too.
At any rate - it's interesting work, and it shows a lot of talent. I hope he takes it somewhere, cause I like the style and I'd like to see where it matures to in the future.

From the interview ikebowen links above:
How long have you been using Photoshop/been a photographer?
Three point five years/Two point five years
This shows, I think. The 'photojournalism' stuff is fairly decent, but the 'art' stuff is juvenile drivel.
