I think someone linked to this clip (you know, one of these clips) in a comment awhile back... At any rate, damn, that's a helluva thing.

As a resident of Cleveland, I say: "Well played, sir. Well played."
Also, that really is one cool explosion.

That was actually my reaction. I guess that's all you can really say. Also, in case people are wondering about the name, the first video uploaded on youtube says "Filmed at Bypass for ASR Hershey (in the vicinity of Baiji)"

I was really hoping for something chocolate-related, but I guess this is alright.

The slow-mo or the zoomed?
All of it. It's something out of a nightmare. Thing I don't understand though is how deep into the ground was it and how the hell did it get there? Maybe a hole was made into the road but there was a space underneath the road? Also shows how much power one of those things can pack when the road basically vomits into the sky.

Does anyone know if it was poorly-made/wet/otherwise-compromised explosive materiel that caused the delay between being triggered and exploding, or if this was a hand-detonated explosion and the detonator (person) mis-timed setting the roadside bomb off?
That certainly was an impressive "improvised" explosion - wonder how big the device was and which compound it was made of?

Is there any proof whatsoever that the munition is Iranian? Several of the posts claim this, but it's impossible to tell from the video clip.

I was kind of hoping for a link to a new Hershey's Chocolate candy that was like, a 1:1 scale of a human heart with like, blood that was actually like kool-aid or something, and like vanilla cake for choles---
Anyhow, this is good too.

I love the way half the clips say it's in Iraq, and the others say Afghanistan. Nice geography skills!

Things are definitely getting better in Iraq. That's one bomb that didn't kill any soldiers. That, my friend, is progress!

Oddly, after I finished watching the video of the explosion, youTube gave me a little related video ad for the electric pickle featured in the Mountain Dew thread just down the page. I don't know what this means, but I suspect an implosion taking out youTube, Google and Metafilter all at once. I blame the Israelis and their magic radar.

I really wished they showed the zombies that climbed out of that hole. I guess the military doesn't want us to know about their secrets.
Remember, we're fighting them over there, so we don't have to fight them in our basements.

I have it on good authority the IED was made from a 1-lb. bar of nitrogen-tricocoamide.
