It's sad that vintage album covers are unsuitable for work.

Breasts of the Middle East!
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

My observations have been that it's OK to show bare breasts
as long as it's not a white woman. Why's that?

Wow, being trapped all alone in the office on a Saturday just started looking up. I got the shimmy down, now how does that belly roll work?
Love the post, nickyskye. :)

Gotta say I much prefer the old exotica jackets from the first link over the contemporary ones from the second link, even though I know those were classic examples of Orientalism...
And how 'bout that 72 CD set of Om Kolthoum? Wow! That's a lot of Om Kolthoum! She was great, though, and if I could swing it I wouldn't mind owning that.

At what point did the middle east go from hookahs and belly dancing to... whatever it is now? Did the Ottoman's screw it up?

Ach, tellurian, when I researched my post I looked for the url and El-Bakkar in both MeFi search and Google, no result, still no result except for my post, not yours. Searched for MiddleEast, no link came up because your tag was Middle_East. Drat.
Happy to honor your previous post now.

No worries nickyskye. I love this guy's music and the more people that get to share it the better.
