Ventura: "Until you hunted man, you haven't hunted yet."

This guy's too wiggy even for the soon-to-be-dead XFL.

Funny, I thought that it was the alien who was hunting man.

Oh, is that all? I thought he had done something really bad.

nothing earth shattering? maybe it's just me, but i found the constant repetition (lost count after five) of phrases like this:

"Because when you hunt the ultimate foe, which is man, who can shoot back, you're the best hunter on the planet"

just a tad bit disturbing. and coming from an elected leader, yeah, i'd say that's really, really problematic.

Yeah, or the fact that he interjects these repetitious phrases defending himself as a true hunter, while everyone else in the room is discussing his record on conservation while governor of Minnesota. It seems that Anderson [the reporter] knows how to paint himself out of a corner pretty well. In other words, how to rile Ventura up without making pointed allegations. But if not for guys like Wheelock on Ventura's side, people who actually know facts and can recite them on demand, Ventura would come across as a complete numbskull.

Which is the point, I suppose.

That part where he looks down at his jackal statuette in the corner, as if to say, "Hey buddy, you've seen me in office. I do a good job here, don't I?" is also telling. I think his sparkplug isn't firing quite right.

weird thing is, I read the transcrpit on the STrib site before coming to see it at MeFi.

he mentions several times he was a navy seal, but a while ago I thought there was some controversy because he was not an actual seal, he just went through seal training. But saying "navy seal" packed more marketing punch so he went for that. anyway...

he just seems so touchy and defensive.

Heh. I blogged that. Here's your link.

norm, you're cursor.org? that's pretty cool. I found cursor before I found metafilter. I loved your standups behind local news live reports.

thanks for the link.

Oh, lord, I wish. No, I found the link from my archives, because I had blogged it last month. Sheesh.

ah, sorry, turning red now.
it's just that cursor is a minneapolis person, and when you said "I blogged" I got confused,

kind of like 16 candles, "you own a church?"

continue discussing jesse's antics...

Um, it doesn't read from here like Ventura was wigging out. In fact, that sure looks from here like a normal backroom argument, with the requisite amounts of repetition, small character attacks, eye-rolling and chest-beating. It all looks above the belt from here.

I know nothing of Minnesota politics or conservation, but I've been in arguments that heated before, and after the first few minutes, everything seems to be above the belt.

That Anderson fella sure held his own, though.
