Should we have a meet up?

When is the 7th Annual No Pants! Subway Ride? This Saturday, January 12th, New York City. They seem to have done it in 2006 as well. Village Voice article on 2006's shenanigans.

Being cuffed, detained for an hour, and released with a warning seems like the exact "confusing a police officer" penalty you'd expect in War-on-Terror America. I mean, given the young-affluent-white-person-with-bystanders-present thing.

After the incident last year with the NYPD, the aftermath of this year's should be amusing to see.

Also, I'll be in the city this weekend. I'll make sure to have my camera on hand, but I'll be keeping my pants on.

I looked at some of the photos from 2006. The coolest people in them are not the pantsless attention-seekers, but all the other subway passengers who, like most New Yorkers, don't pay any attention at all to their fellow riders.

I wash and disinfect my hands if I have to hang on to a railing during a subway ride. Now they wanna have us sitting around on said subway with genitalia going this way and that possibly touching god-knows-what? In the name of performance art, please stop!

Or to put it bluntly: fucking ewwwwww!!!!

How about the No Pants! Moustache Ride held semi-infrequently* in my parents' rumpus room before they get home from work?

*ok, infrequently. By which I mean, never. :(

"Depantsing"

Verb, noun or adjective?

Please say it's all three!
posted by CynicalKnight at 11:47 AM on January 9, 2008

"no pants" "moustache" "parents" and "rumpus" do not belong on the same internet.

"Once all of the pantless riders are in place, two “Pants Sellers” enter each car. They annouce they have pants for $1 and proceed to make sales."

What happened to the disorderly conduct charges last time?

Best part:

Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, I am on this subway selling pants, not for no charity, but for myself, to stay out of trouble.

More mornings than I would like to admit, riding half awake on the subway, I have suddenly been panicked by the thought of whether or not I was wearing pants. My eyes open wide and jolt of terror shoots up my spine as I look down to check that I am, indeed, wearing pants. I usually am.

There is one planned for San Francisco this Saturday as well. I believe it's only posted on facebook, though. I'll be attending with a friend, I'm not sure if I myself am going to depant.

This was a great idea seven times ago. Now it's more like a 'tradition' which one could also describe as "sad."

Thank God we have someone to tell us what's not entertaining, otherwise we might enjoy the silly things that happen in this city.

It's also happening in Boston on Saturday. I'm waiting to see how the cops manage to turn it into a bomb scare.

Police were summoned to the scene when a man was said to have exposed an unmarked package on the train . . .

And Toronto apparently. Won't be participating, thanks, but I'll keep an eye out for the pantsless on Saturday.

Damn! Wish I'd heard about this earlier, so I could get one happening here in Sydney on Saturday. Oh well, at least Adelaide is ensuring some Antipodean participation.

Well, Boston had its annual Santa Speedo Run a few weeks ago with no LiteBriteTM scare.

I think tighty-whites on the "T' will cause no alarm -- other than to well-bred Beacon Hill matrons who'll gasp, clutch their pearls and then likely invite a few of the "young gentlemen" home for a "spot of tea (dance)".

It's also taking place in Portland this weekend. Although we don't have a fancy "subway" like you East Coast people. Bastards.

A girl I used to have a major crush on turned up in the photos of one of these events a year or two ago. Imagine my surprise at seeing her in her skivvies, something I once would have given my eye teeth to see.

I am totally friends with them on facebook now. Man, those girls in panties seem pretty gutsy to me.

I decided to actually drop my trou for this. Really, it was quite a rush, and with 900 other people involved, less awkward.

That's awesome, psmealey. Here's the full writeup. An excerpt:
Me: Do you know what that was?
Cop: I have no idea! That is the craziest shit I’ve ever seen in my life, AND I’M A COP!
Me: Ha. Yeah, it was weird.
Cop: You wanna sign up to be in the NYPD?
Me: No thanks.

Thanks, grouse, I thought it was pretty cool too. I was of a mind to post it as an FPP, but there have been a few Improv Everywhere posts here over the last few years.
