Master of the 'didge' - after veins burst in his throat some years ago while he was playing the didgeridoo, doctors warned that continued playing would threaten his life. Admitted to hospital last week with bleeding on the brain, he died on Sunday from a brain haemorrhage. He was 40. posted by tellurian (18 comments total) 5 users marked this as a favorite

Man. Buddy Miles and Alan Darkin in the same period.

What a crappy week.

The one thing that stopped me from buying a didgeridoo during my last trip to Brisbane was I knew that to play it I had to learn the art of circular breathing.

That just seemed like way too much work.

This is really sad.

Also bwg, practice circular breathing by blowing bubbles through a straw. It's really not that hard.

So can anyone explain how playing a didgeridoo could cause one to blow out neck and brain veins?

What bobot said. He must've been doing something really wrong if the hobby and events are related.

That is too cool sounding.
Totally trance like.
Beautiful.

Don't know what his style of playing was that lead to his demise, Doctor's warning and all... sounds like a physiological fault, like a heart murmur for instance.

How To Play A Didgeridoo
a hella site explaining circular breathing and Eucalyptus. Ahhh, the Eucalyptus...and beeswax mouth pieces, really.

I didn't know shit about that instrument.
