As for cognitive dissonance: Meh. Ellen has been easing the soccer moms into gangsta rap for a few years now, and in this post-"Oprah's tossed salad" world, where a K Records lo-fite like Kimya Dawson can utter the phrase "blew a little load out of the bottom of your pants" in the presence of the mighty Ms. Walters, it's hard to find anything all that jarring anymore. posted by Sys Rq at 6:12 PM on April 4, 2008
The audio guys on the show were all making fun of his $40,000 diamond-studded mic, which actually contained about $39,750 worth of diamonds and "one cheap-ass microphone" inside.... posted by nevercalm at 6:40 PM on April 4, 2008
I could not get the Red Lasso link to work but watching the vid on youtube all I could think was... you could put Weird Al in this vid, not change a single thing about the video or a single word from the song and it'd be legit. And probably a bigger hit than it will as it is. posted by dobbs at 6:42 PM on April 4, 2008
Also, for a little more fun....camera blocking that morning.

His rhymes are so potent that in that small segment, he made all the ladies in the audience pregnant. posted by Jon Mitchell at 10:26 PM on April 4, 2008 [3 favorites]
AMAZING post. Thank you. I love this song. posted by nonmerci at 6:02 AM on April 5, 2008
I've been fascinated with this song since Anil Dash's appreciative comments. It performs quite well live with a classic motown chorus behind him. It makes perfect sense to me that he's on The View, a demonstration that our society is truly decadent and permissive. posted by Nelson at 9:18 AM on April 5, 2008 [1 favorite]
And wow, he's awesome in that interview. He's so shy and sweet. Arm almost around Barbara Walters, but not quite touching her. Sprawled in the middle of the couch with his knees spread, yet hand shyly hiding his basket. Laughing sweetly and nervously at the women's silly jokes, a bit awkward and yet totally cool. posted by Nelson at 9:22 AM on April 5, 2008
I watched more of the camera blocking video than the actual performance, and I enjoyed it a whole lot more, too. nevercalm, that was awesome. posted by jokeefe at 11:50 AM on April 5, 2008

That was where I started laughing, that whole clip was great. posted by jessamyn at 8:03 AM on April 6, 2008
Anyone catch what Babs says at the end of the redlasso (The View) link? Something along the lines of "Listen to him guys, thats how to treat a women"
Thats when my head exploded.
I'd go back and check the exact wording, but it would crash my computer ;) posted by [son] QUAALUDE at 12:21 PM on April 6, 2008
