I was also frustrated that "The Widow's Son" never lead to a finish to the series but never actually took someone hostage because of it.

My friend Tim Cridland used to publish a 'zine called Off The Deep End in the late 1980's which was devoted to conspiracy theory and general weirdness. I remember reading about Mr. Noid back then...
