I'd like to see an edited version of this with all the funny stuff taken out. I bet it would look remarkably like a real mtv/BET interview.

I blame SNL for the whole concept of taking a 2 minute joke, and stretching it out to 9 minutes.
out of context Rock Band drumming is always hilarious to watch. posted by billyfleetwood at 1:56 PM on October 28, 2008
This is what YouTube was made for, and makes up for tons of pointless bullshit. The Miley Cyrus tickets and "eat/sleep/play games hawrd" sections had me dying.
Yo Loc Dog , this stuff is real played, son !
I remembered that movie as being hilarious, but I watched it again, and damn, it's really immature and unfunny. It has a few funny scenes, but most of it is just painful. Pretty much just like the rest of the Wayans' output (White Chicks, Little Man, Scary Movie, etc.). I attribute it to being a teenager and really high the first time I watched it. posted by DecemberBoy at 1:59 PM on October 28, 2008

You're right to do that, but it's misplaced here. It's got some chaff in it, but not so much that I stopped watching it. On the whole I thought it was very funny and better than more than 99% of the intentional comedy on YouTube. posted by Mayor Curley at 2:01 PM on October 28, 2008

However, if you want to see a really good spoof film along similar lines, check out the criminally underrated Fear Of A Black Hat. It was made before "hood movies" were popular and thus is more of a "This Is Spinal Tap" homage which follows a fictional rap group (NWH - Niggaz with Hats - based on NWA, of course), but it's an early and awesome example of the kind of humor in the FPP. One of NWH's singles is named "Fuck The Security Guards", for example. posted by DecemberBoy at 2:32 PM on October 28, 2008 [3 favorites]
Man, I wish there was a way to separate the voices from the background music... that'd be some wicked sample material for hardcore powernoise :) posted by starscream at 2:52 PM on October 28, 2008
honestly, i blame Mr Show for the whole "stretching a joke too thin" thing in sketch comedy. not one of their sketches should have been longer than 15 seconds, except for the hilarious Pre-Taped Call In Show sketch. posted by shmegegge at 3:04 PM on October 28, 2008

The fact that they clearly and consciously stretched the joke way too far is what made a lot of the sketches so funny. "The Story Of Everest" for example, if the guy had only knocked over the thimble collection once or twice it wouldn't have even been funny. When he did it a third time and then just kept doing it it became hilarious. Or the guy trying to get change in the convenience store, or East Coast/West Coast ventriloquism, and on and on. Sure, sometimes it didn't work, but it often did. posted by DecemberBoy at 3:25 PM on October 28, 2008 [2 favorites]

CB4 also has the same exact premise. They even go so far as to show how the different characters in CB4 end up much like the members of NWA ended up after the they broke up. Such as MC Ren ending up as a born-again militant muslim. The music is also similiar, such as: Straight Outta Locash posted by P.o.B. at 10:50 PM on October 28, 2008

The sketch that I think goes way too far and is the least funny is the Dalai Lama\Camp Monk Academy it starts off ok but it takes up most of the show and the transition into fat kids VS. monks is just stupid

Yeah, that's definitely a good example of one that didn't work. Another one would be the "Third Wheel Legend" one, where it tries to descend into total wackiness but instead is just kind of stupid.
