The Han Solo P.I. video is remarkable not only because they were able to find scenes which were analogous to the original Magnum P.I. shots, but the pairing of the supporting cast of Magnum to Alec Guiness, Chewie, and Luke was striking in their similarity to each other in appearance/role.
80s episodic intros, are there no greater pieces of television? posted by cavalier at 4:06 PM on June 3
God this stuff never ceases to amuse me. Stick me in a Clockwork Orange setup where I'm forced to watch YouTube mashups all day and I'd die insanely happy. posted by GuyZero at 4:11 PM on June 3

The MacGyver one almost had me wishing for a Star Wars weekly series, with all the lighthearted character interaction. Then I remembered that Lucas would have to be involved.
But yeah, the Han Solo, P.I. one was really brilliant. Most of the others just showed the adaptability of TV opening sequence tropes to fundamentally different material. posted by dhartung at 4:34 PM on June 3 [2 favorites has favorites]
Is this something I'd need to be a child of the 80s to get? Oh wait! I am.
In the spirit of the Saul Bass style intro, I've always thought this intro would work great for Star Wars, and with very little editing. As is, it pretty much spells out the entire trilogy. You just need to have Chewie say "it's" in Wookie, change the voice over and titles, and pop in a few character heads, notably Vader's head on the chicken body, and have him towing the Death Star just before the god foot comes down. posted by effwerd at 4:47 PM on June 3
While watching Han Solo P.I., I thought, surely it's not just the music and the style of the titles that made it seem so right on? And then I watched the side-by-side comparison to the original, and I was amazed. Very well done. posted by FishBike at 5:52 PM on June 3

Han Solo, P.I., shot first.

I have vague vague (AWESOME!!!elevensies!) memories of Airwolf. Que-ed them in zip (cdn version of netflix) just to depress myself.
Magnun/HanSolo Pi side-by-side? Perfect.
I know that Harrison Ford was a walk on for his role in 'Star Wars' and I'm really surprised that he never signed onto a TV series and ended up being a prolific and mostly respected lead actor.
Heh, one of very few who were in the original Star Wars trilogy who moved beyond Star Wars. posted by porpoise at 11:38 PM on June 3
