After a client complained about his posting "I am hot, I am hot" on a financial website, Anjool Malde -- a hard-partying young banker from a small town in the UK who tweeted as @anjool -- went to a high-end London restaurant in a stylish suit, ordered champagne, and jumped off the balcony to his death.

Young adult does something childish, it backfires, and he deals with it in a childish, over-the-top, entirely unneccessary response.
It's sad that it came to this but christ, the guy clearly had some growing up to do and the pattern of behaviour he's exhibited backs this up. Darwin is sleeping well tonight.

After a client complained, after he graduated college, after his 6th birthday. The fact is, after reading the links, no could say why he jumped. Sure, my initial reaction was "oh, if I can't be a rich, young banker, life isn't worth living. Who cares?" But there's no evidence that was his reason. Could it have been a contributing factor? Sure. But I would hazard a guess that there was probably more to it.

Uh, or he is like one of millions of people suffering from depression who showed little outward signs of it and everyone around him wanted to fill in the blanks with a narrative that they could understand. Or maybe there were signs and the surviving friends don't want to feel like they missed it, so they figure it must be about this trivial work incident.

Note to people everywhere: try to live your life with a basic fundamental understanding of who you are and what your place is in this world, so that you don't go around hurting other people carelessly, or hurting yourself carelessly, or anything near either of those extremes -- and if you're having trouble doing this, ask people for help.

Yeah, I didn't really get why this merited hitting any sort of the websites I frequent such that I heard about it a few days ago, except that a young, "up-and-coming" professional decided to go out in something of a misguided-but-classy heap of glory? Who cares?
A local man jumped off the fourth level of a local hospital's parking structure in a misguided attempt to end his life. He's now in VERY bad shape, and not dead. Would it have been news enough for the FP if he tweeted first and got fired?

You know who kills themselves? People with serious (and largely treatable) issues, and cowards who can't face that they've been assholes all their lives. Huzzah. One more asshole dead. The world breathes easier.

It consumes your whole world. Everything you do and see and hear is coloured by the horrible hopeless futility of doing anything at all because it's all so bad. And suicide starts looking like a good thing. When you wake up every morning dreading having to do anything because of how much worse it makes you feel, ending it all seems like a gift from God by comparison. When every little thing around you reminds you of what a fraud, a failure, a fake you are, you feel worse. And you care a little less about things.. it's all so pointless, why bother? And then you see how much worse things are getting for you. And then you feel worse. And so you care a little bit less...
Eventually, you hit what the alcoholics call rock bottom. Things reach a crisis, a breaking point, and you cannot keep going. They cannot get any worse than they are. Sometimes it's before you do something stupid, sometimes you hit that point standing on the edge of a cliff ready to fling yourself off, or sitting on the Bloor-Danforth Viaduct--before they put in the suicide barrier.
And at that point, you either have a moment of clarity and find a way out, even if just for now... or you jump. He jumped.
A young man was so tormented inside that he felt it was better to kill himself than to face having to wake up again.
And you people say nothing valuable was lost. Shame on you.

The more I think about this, the more I realize how the story is total bullshit. It is a narrative created by people who didn't know him well enough to see what was going on and prevent it. These are people who had no idea what was going on with him telling the press about why he killed himself. The F. So of course they shape the story to be about themselves, their industry, and how the pressures of banking broke this guy.
Maybe all you guys saying "fuck him" should be saying "fuck his friends" instead.
