It works by running a script from acciona.com. I've never seen anything else on YouTube do that before
IIRC, Nintendo did something like the (but more cartoony) for a WarioWare game. posted by ShawnStruck at 6:23 PM on November 6 [2 favorites]
Actually, script makes it sound kind of untrustworthy. What I meant was that NoScript blocked it. It just loads a .swf from acciona.com. Still though, very cool! I'd be interested in seeing what Nintendo did with this if anyone has the link handy. posted by battlebison at 6:26 PM on November 6
It's kind of like that crazy video on Vimeo which I can't remember the link for. posted by chunking express at 6:29 PM on November 6
Maan. Why did they use such a terrible voice-actor? This + the original Gene Wilder (or even someone with a normal voice) would have been awesome. posted by Solon and Thanks at 6:35 PM on November 6
This YouTube video seems to break my browser. Does it play alright for anyone else?
Heh, I rickrolled the Help Desk at my college with the exact same lead-in last year, on April Fool's Day. Got deservedly scolded for 'wasting resources.' posted by porn in the woods at 6:36 PM on November 6 [1 favorite]
Wait, I interrupted Louis Armstrong sining for a Spanish utilities company? Sorry to say, Acciona, but you're not worth it. posted by Sova at 6:45 PM on November 6
I've never seen anything else on YouTube do that before, just wait til scammers get a word of it!
Yeah, as was mentioned upthread there have been a couple. It definitely requires working with us though, random YouTubers can't do this (which as you point out is a good thing). I don't know anything about this specific campaign though. posted by wildcrdj at 6:46 PM on November 6

It's essentially a "fake" youtube page though, notice how you can't click anything but the play button. Interesting. posted by haveanicesummer at 6:57 PM on November 6

Am I the only one who was expecting a Rammstein video once the lyrics started? posted by Decimask at 7:11 PM on November 6 [5 favorites]
Yeah, basically the entire page is a flash video. The vimeo video was cool I think, in that all the widgets and shit still worked. I still can't remember the link. posted by chunking express at 7:12 PM on November 6
Talk about being a little wimp. Well, a big wimp. No way I was clicking that till I checked out the comments. posted by notreally at 7:17 PM on November 6

Decimask, me too. Rammstein's cover of Stripped, to be more exact.
OK, so Youtube won't let me put scripts in my video... But what's stopping me to going to the home of every one who clicks my video, and personally bashing their monitors with a hammer? posted by qvantamon at 7:42 PM on November 6
God, I hate seeing Windows-style font rendering on my Mac. It looks like ass, and it's a dead giveaway that I was looking at an image, and not actual text.
The Wario Land ad linked above is far cooler in that respect. posted by emelenjr at 9:23 PM on November 6
It worked fine for me - it was supposed to be a really boring video of a man exploding, right? posted by Bageena at 9:32 PM on November 6
Yes, it'd be very bad if *.youtube.com would ever run user script, or even user flash w/o the various protection options. But this is just an iframe, which makes it equivalent to banner ads (and vulnerable only to visual content replacement). posted by effugas at 10:54 PM on November 6
This should be a YouTube feature. There should be a button you could push that would make any goddamn awful video split into tiny pieces. posted by twoleftfeet at 10:56 PM on November 6 [3 favorites]
Yep works fine, no worries! posted by naju at 11:28 PM on November 6

Iframes can, in fact, run scripts. There was a big thing recently where spyware downloaders were showing up in banner ads on otherwise legitimate sites. posted by Kalthare at 9:43 AM on November 7
Agreed, Two Left Feet. Ideally, it'd be an MMO-ish experience. Everyone has a 9mm pistol that they can use to shot parts of the video or comments they don't like. It'd leave a small whole, but if enough people think it's crap, they can really turn the shit into swiss cheese. posted by mccarty.tim at 9:52 AM on November 7
The most amazing thing about the Wario version linked above is that even after all the destruction and mayhem all the links and buttons still work! posted by mjg123 at 1:16 PM on November 7
