I've never even heard of these, much less heard them. The 1969 one is amazing. So candid and weird and honest. posted by orville sash at 7:34 AM on December 24, 2009

"Christmas Time Is Here Again" is still one of my favorite Christmas songs - even if it does go on a bit long. posted by Slack-a-gogo at 7:54 AM on December 24, 2009
Christmas Time Is Here Again is one of those great forgotten Beatles' songs that never really took hold. It's like Birthday in that it proves that even the Beatles couldn't easily introduce songs for traditional occasions.
Though really, "you say it's your birthday. It's my birthday too, yeah" couldn't possibly be a lyric that would work for ceremonial birth celebrations unless there were two people present with the same birthday. How often does that happen? posted by twoleftfeet at 8:30 AM on December 24, 2009

Now see, I would say that it starts a bit too early. By that, I mean that I think the more interesting iterations are toward the end of the recording, while the beginning sounds a bit staid. posted by hippybear at 8:45 AM on December 24, 2009

Thank you for these. The same old Christmas albums shall perish this year.

As much as I dislike Yoko, I love John + Yoko ad lib. The part at the beginning of "Happy Xmas" where they each whisper "Merry Christmas" to each other is my favorite part of the song. posted by jabberjaw at 12:01 PM on December 24, 2009
This is one of those things that I thank God for the Internet.
Before the Internet, when I was 11 or so and heard about these records, my only option would be to pay $100 or so for the record of this from the local record/collectibles store. Now, I can just download it or listen to it on YouTube. posted by champthom at 6:35 PM on December 24, 2009 [1 favorite]
