I started out researching Norman Spinrad's The Iron Dream and stumbled across this post, which completely derailed me.

Odd coincidence: I was explaining the 'Kipling swastika' to a patron just this morning.

Damn that Kipling post is nice. Thanks, brundlefly; looks like a cool little blog.

And yes, I have three Kipling swastika spines in the next room next to this one, and a couple of other early 20th-c swastika book appearances. When I die one of my Jewish relatives is going to raise an eyebrow or two.

Ah, growabrain, that explains the excellence here. It's so much fun to watch a sharp mind wander intelligently over the web.

Worthy post. I've been casually following Ray's output for a while and have always meant to look deeper into the long list in his blogger profile.

Has it really taken this long for this great site to hit MetaFilter? Excellent post, brundlefly!
