To the public in the wide world, she may be known mostly from two short scenes (1,2) in Pulp Fiction. Maria de Medeiros, however, has also played in a number of American, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian, Portuguese, British, French and Austrian movies, and is a critically acclaimed director. Oh, and she sings. Rather well.

Yeah, thanks for this. Somehow she came up in a conversation about Pulp fiction. My wife remarked "Oh! Maria de Medeiros! She's Portuguese and I love her singing..." and then I became a fan too.

Wow. I realized, watching these clips, that I've been seeing her in various roles for a long time, but without connecting the pieces -- I was always impressed, but hadn't managed to notice her as an actress and follow her roles. Thanks for this.

Saddest Music In The World is one of my favourite films, and Maria de Medeiros is one of my favourite parts of it.

Knew she could sing, didn't know she had a career outside the cinema. Interesting!

That was a Rodriguez movie. I think Resevoir Dogs is his only movie without any foot shots, but there weren't any women in it either.

You know, I kind of always thought Maria de Medeiros was the name of the actress who played Esmerelda Villalobos. (Angela Jones as it turns out.) Slightly embarrassing, as I love Pulp Fiction. A dumb assumption corrected is a good post in my book. Thanks!

Trivia: Her father is a composer and maestro; her sister Inês is cut from similar cloth. Oddly enough, the Almeida/Medeiros family is unrelated to another Luso-French-American composer and conductor with a very similar name.
