I got about halfway through the article before I realized I wasn't reading The Onion. And then I sort of felt sort of ill.

This has to be cribbed from the Onion.
Oh, and this is terrible.

The Onion would never be so unprofessional as to use the wording "the customer was asked to call it a night" in one of its articles.

This is all about mullets. I used to have a mullet rating system and would play this with friends walking about various European cities. I don't remember it exactly, but it went something like this:
Regular mullet: 1point
Slightly unusual mullet (i.e shaved bald on top etc.): 2 points
Fem-mullet: 2 points
Gelled Mullet (an obvious use of gel or other product so that hair "shines"): 3 points
Mullet with double denim (i.e jeans and a denim jacket, commonly referred to in the US as a "Canadian Tuxedo): 4 points
Mullet and Moustache combo: 5 points
In the unlikely event that one witnesses a mullet and moustache combo and the mullet is gelled or the subject is wearing double denim, the game is over. Nothing beats that.

I have never heard this before. How common is that term?

The picture had been placed reverentially above the men’s room urinal as “something to look at when you are going to the restroom,” Pusateri told The Hollywood Reporter.
That's a very helpful explanation of why the photo was placed where it was.
