These are great! Meanwhile, does anyone else think that Kate Beaton's faces look like faces from The Critic?

She's also got nothin' on the original Sexy Batman.

Oh hell I meant to link to this.

She's so great.

"A marriage of two fine things, like wine and more wine."

And yes, griphus, they've always reminded me of The Critic. (This is a good thing.)

Her Sexy Tudors comic is great, too.

I love both Kate Beaton and Batman, but this post is pretty thin.

Well...sorry about ruining your day by linking you to something you'll like, I guess?

Dudes & Swords is my favorite Kate Beaton comic. Historical and hysterical!

But you must admit that his ass is pretty consumed by a gritty demand for vengeance, which is not too sexy, really.

...The Critic?

Oh my god. I just realized that for my entire adult life I've had The Critic and Dr. Katz inseverably entwined in my mind. I don't know which is which, or what goes where or...

I think I'll go lay down now.

Somebody send this to Christopher Nolan, stat!

I'm guessing you didn't read a lot of detective noir as a kid.

Sam Spade can stay, Marlowe has to clean the ashtrays.

Only Hammett, as I recall. And the sexy takes place during lulls in the obsessive vengeance-seeking. Batman is pretty relentlessly clenched.

I too am not sure we need to post every Beaton comic, but then, the Commissoner Gordon one...oh my.

The sexiest thing I recall in Hammett was the Continental Op drinking scotch in the bathtub.

Jeez, for her next comic she should go ahead and just draw us a plate of beans.

My personal favorite Kate Beaton comic is The Brave Crew of the Nautilus Battle the Monstrous Squid...

I'd pay good money to have this final panel on my wall.

Seconded on the Critic thing (which I literally realized just last week), and on how great the Pearson comic is.

Kate Beaton is great overall.

I do love me some Kate Beaton comics. And since we're linking to stuff of hers we do love, allow me to point out her younger self comics. Which. Are. Awesome.

I didn't totally lose it until 'Carwash'.

Usually when someone gets a lot of Metafilter posts, no matter how talented they are or how much I love them, I roll my eyes a little, like "yes, xkcd was particularly insightful and geek-relevant today. Oh, thank you for being the twentieth person today to notify me that Allie Brosh updated."

But if there's a Kate Beaton post, I'm always like AW YEAH ORSUM IT'S KATE BEEEEATON, YOU GUYS SEEN THE PONY AND THE MYSTERY SOLVING TEENS YEAHHH!

Also: check it, gears.

This post made me catch up on my History Comics last night.
For whatever reason, the Kirkegaard book cover had be in tears and I had to get it off my screen because I kept breaking out in debilitating laughter every time I looked at it.

1. Why does "sexy" mean "gay"? Can't Batman be sexy by appealing to women? Why are we only thinking about the male gaze here?

2. My bar for humor is higher than "those wacky gays!" and there have also been much better Kate Beaton comics.

3. This is totally reminding me of my Batman Theory. Batman the character is relentlessly serious, so you can easily score laughs by putting him in a non-serious situation. Kate Beaton is cashing in on the hard work that went into building up the serious Batman brand, and she is not the first person to do so. BTW Hirohiko Araki pulls this stunt with his own flagship character when he makes Jotaro Kujo hold a baby or whatever.
