Can I ask just a clarifying thing? Is this MeTa really about "Drumpf" or is it about name calling more generally? I read the MeTa as name-calling overall but it seems like we're talking mostly about using sardonic nicknames that are not people's preferred names, rather than name calling overall.

I'll be honest, as a Jewish person it unpleasantly reminds me of all the times people reference a Jewish entertainer's original name, like when I've seen people write "Jon Stewart (aka Jon Leibowitz)", and a trans user it reminds me of deadnaming.

well my dad died peacefully in the night. I'm very thankful for the peacefully part. he was 80 and had been very ill for a while. now on to the chaos of booking flights etc.,

Oh, and follow-up to this comment from two weeks ago, my mother's doing better. The surgery went OK, though she has a gnarly series of stitches across the top of her head like a headband. She's in acute care now getting occupational and physical therapy to make sure she still has balance and isn't troubled by stairs.

I would imagine that, as the IRS realises how powerful free filing is for administering a tax system, there'll be efforts to move as many processes as possible into the free system. Tax code changes? Update the free system, automatic compliance. Auditing becomes a lot easier because the system can alert on good-faith mistakes. Great episode. My biggest takeaway from it was that Ayo would be an excellent SNL cast member, though I’d selfishly rather she keep doing what she’s doing rather than join SNL. Like, I didn’t love the Mr. Fantasmic sketch, but I absolutely loved Ayo in it.

Sarah Sherman as CJ was my high point also—especially the range of faces she made as “Cat’s in the Cradle” played.

Some people shouldn't have kids, because they for various reasons do not have and cannot onboard the skills required to parent with love. The latter part matters, because some people can, which makes it more significant that some people simply cannot even when the stakes are that high.

@atomicstone: That's where my wandering mind went as well. Wikipedia has some delightfully erudite info, including snails, colors, tzitzit, and a history of rabbinic opinions on this and related matters.
But: there's no mention of the stench, and no explicit mention of royal purple. That, despite the info that both snails allegedly originated from the same stretch of Eastern Med from Tyre and points south. I leave it to others to connect the dots.

Endorsing this point. A full board and committees are not necessary right now. You need a minimum of three people to stand up the nonprofit, no more. I’d focus on that and leave board recruitment and committtess and ED hire to a later stage. Trying to reach for more thinking at this stage may ve slowing stuff down.

Something that I realized recently was that a lot of people I know hire housecleaners and then never mention it. I assume that their houses are so clean because they're much more organized and competent and non-ADHD than me, and I'm sure they are, but it's partly that there's stigma on paying for housecleaning services, so people don't mention that they do it.

Seriously, this is just dumb. Yes, wash it once in a while. I only use water and ice in mine, and I wash it when it looks a little funky. You have an immune system, and tap water is chlorinated. My father in-law was just warning me about this (he watches an absurd amount of daytime Tv and local news, but at least he's not a right-winger). This story must be making the rounds.

Sounds like we very nearly literally dodged a bullet in that he didn't go out in a mass shooting. You don't go to jail for being creepy in email to 17-year-olds in California, and I'm sure he would have had his defenders in the community--at worst, he would have taken a hit to income and wouldn't have been invited to certain events anymore. Ed was talented and flawed. He made some mistakes, more than we knew I guess. He followed them up with a worse one today, a final one. It's a messy legacy. Maybe in time the good he leaves will outweigh the bad. That's the best most of us can hope for, after all.
