Do Judge A Magazine By Its Cover: I'm ashamed to say I only recognized one name (Covarrubias) from the list of illustrators featured in Condé Nast's sparkling collection of cover art, dating from the 1910s to the 1950s. It's also searchable by magazine. So now I count myself a fan of Rene Bouet-Willaumez, A.H. Fish, Henry Stahlhut, Carl Erickson and a few others too. All in all, it's good, clean fun - even though the site's commercial and one's fingers often ache to open the damn things and actually read the bastards!
Well, there goes my day. Look! There's John Held, jr., the great Jazz Age cartoonist.

Ooooh...I'd like to live here, have this for breakfast, then go play naked in the leaves...yes, I should have been born a flapper.

The Library of Congress has an impressive photo archive online.
If you go to their main page, they've provided all sorts of wonderful material to browse. Enjoy.

Sorry if it's a bit off topic; but within the collections, there are lots of pieces used in magazines. From the main page I was even able to find a collection showing the development of advertising in the US over from 1850 to 1920.
I was just excited about these archives and my previous post wasn't very coherent.
