"They also reached a settlement so that Disney does not benefit from the movie it turned its back on. Any profits from the film's distribution that go to Miramax or Disney will be donated to charity, the statement said."

Checkmate. When this hits the internet, expect a FPP about it.

Something easily found online plus five links to previous metafilter discussions does not a metafilter post make.

I think this was preemptive.

Preemptive to what? Deletion? Fucking AOL can tell me that Michael Moore's found distribution.

"Bowling for Columbine" had a distributor and still never made it to Lincoln, NE. (To be fair, it was finally brought to the University theatre for a few showings -- months after everyone else saw it, but it was pretty obviously that local distributors blackballed it.

Heck, Blockbuster wouldn't even order the DVD for me until I kept pestering them for a solid two months.

Look for an independently distributed film to get ignored a bit worse. This will be seen in the northeast and west coast only, I bet.

RavinDave -- No shit?

Today, sixty three pornographies also found distribution. This has been Harry Knuckles, Ain't-it-boring News, signing off.

Mr RavinDave: Just for curiosities sake, what about Supersize Me? Would that make it to NE?

muckster - now THERE'S the proper Metafilter post.

But - I wonder - shouldn't Michael Moore just file a lawsuit against the Bush reelection campaign in order to get more free publicity?

: seeking no damages, of course - just an injunction against infringements on the movie name/trademark.

If Scharzenegger can go after bobbleheads, Michael Moore can go after the Bush camapaign.

In commiepinko Sweden the recent Moore debacle has gotten Bowling for Columbine a second cinema release.

Guess who owns fahrenheit911movie.com?

actually, it looks like the owner is Alex Emes of Lakemont, NY. Home of Freedom Village USA, a faith-based home for troubled teens.

His name actually pops up at Freedom Village Canada as the "executive director".

It looks like they are just repointing the URL to Bush/Cheney.

Michael Moore spoke with Nick Berg months before death

and, speaking of people named "Moore":

AAAARRGH! there's a Roy Moore photo on their homepage! you should have warned it's NSFW

Funny that in redirecting the URL, he is making the same de facto allegation of President Bush that he is trying to prevent people from finding out about.

RavinDave: Bowling played for two weeks at the Dundee here in Omaha. Which is somewhat ironic as we usually have to go to the MRR in Lincoln for films such as that.

On the subject of Supersize getting to NE, probably yes at the MRR, but I doubt it'll get to Omaha, unless the Dundee pick it up.

And, if I'd bothered to read the site I'd just linked to, I'd have known that the MRR will indeed be showing Super Size Me from July 7 to 22. So, I think that wraps that one up.

Agreed, zedbends -- but the MRR theatre has been known to fold under very little pressure as well (eg: when a Catholic State Senator intimidated them out of showing "Hail, Mary"). Thankfully, that blackeye was years ago and the fool in charge is now cursing another University. Since it moved to its own building, it has offered a very nice selection (any of you guys see "Bubba Ho-Tep"? ;) ) and I'm glad you posted your comment. I needed the reminder to put it prominently back on my calendar.

Harvey Weinstein: "Okay, is everyone on the line? Good. Eisner, nice job, you totally seemed like a tax-break mongering douchebag. Moore, you went to Cannes, won that silly prize from Quentin, and made a suitably big stink. Bob and I get to look like all-time champs of free speech. I think that about covers it. See you boys at the Oscars."

They will also be responsible for all costs to finish the film and all marketing costs not paid by any third-party film distributors.

Isn't this film finished? I thought it won an award?

I read somewhere that Moore is still making changes, or at least has the ability to. Cannes showing does not always equal theatrical release.
