Yes, we were good in 2004. We apparently suck in 2005, though. (Slashdot? Best "community" weblog? I guess it's a community. Demented and sad, but a community).

Eventually no site will qualify for a nomination without excessive use of "boobies" and "fuck."
I'm more interested in the rise of commercial blogs in the Bloggies -- this year dominated by Gawker Media and Weblogs Inc.

If indeed this post isn't just a facetious romp, perhaps someone can explain why anyone should give a shit about the Bloggies? Even as a joke, it falls flat; too much of an "aren't we a cool crowd of hipsters?" vibe all around.
I'm all for self-congratulatory circle jerks and all, but still ...
Besides, when did frickin' /. become a blog?

Blogrolling beats Technorati and Blogdex. Movable Type beats TypePad in best app category while del.icio.us does not even appear. The usual suspects appear over and over again. Honestly? I don't think I could be less interested in where MetaFilter finished, now. As for individual weblogs, awarding the best is like awarding the best leaf in a forest. It's so much effort to find new ones, people look at the ones they found last year, and the year before that, and the year before that -- when it wasn't the best leaf in the forest but the best leaf that blew over the fence from next door's back yard.
That weblogs are now in the hands of the masses is a good thing but I've long since lost interest in keeping a personal weblog. I'd much rather contribute to communities and/or collective wholes, be they small group weblogs, MetaFilter-like community blogs, del.icio.us links, wikipedia articles or Flickr photographs. It feels much more rewarding and much less like mental masturbation.
I think the tide is moving towards community. I see less and less value in umpteen individual blogs -- except perhaps those written about specific subjects by people that really know their stuff. To me it's like public transport versus people riding round in SUVs: one's good for the community, one pollutes it. In the case of weblogs it's noise instead of gases, though.

Community? I thought it was about the links.
How can anyone call a group of people mostly being assholes to each other, a community, anyway? The award-winners left here long ago. Or were banned.
Next good link saves my soul.

I say we use the 20.04 to buy a large amount of sticky substances and smear them on enemy blogs keyboards, making us the dominant blog once more.
Or we could just use it to pay the bills, but that would be boring.
