It's the return of "Weird Uncle Willie" ...

Would it be impolite of me to suggest that some "ballot-stuffing" was going on here?

HA! welcome to the ernie and jish show! who wants to start a betting pool?

on the best "non-weblog" content of a weblog, there is a nomination for Fairvue central. shouldn't nikolai remove himself from consideration given the obvious conflict of interest?
posted by moz at 10:01 AM on January 24, 2002

Nah, nikolai's a stand-up guy, he'll play it fair. I'm more concerned with the fact that I'm not nominated for best latin-american blog.

It's more like the Ernie and Willie show!

It's a good thing I'm Chinese. Otherwise, I wouldn't have 38 cousins, constantly stuffing the ballot box.

you know honestly, I lost this same category [best topical] to my same competitor [disturbing search requests] last year, and our sites are still the same, so I'm guessing the results will be too. Except I think for some reason Obscure Store wasn't thought of as topical last year, and everyone knows that Romanesko has a bigger posse than me.

This year, as with last year, no one even let me know I was nominated. This year, as with last year, I feel like my job is to play "bystander #3", an important supporting role but with no chance of living through to the final gripping action scene. Librarians read the site in droves, but they don't know much about the Bloggies.

my bad, jish. i was only looking at one portion of the screen, you know... since i am narcissistic and all, i was looking at the category is was nominated for, and you came up twice on the screen. then when i realized that it was noah grey was nominated 34654 times and not you, it was too late! alas.
posted by notoriousbhc at 12:24 PM on January 24, 2002

why do i see nothing but a "come back next week when the finalists are announced" message?

Being black, I'm going to allege that my people were blocked from the polls by police.

Hmm, this whole debacle reminds me of certain cabals planned in certain online competition games. I see how it is, Ernie! Taking a page from your own dirty book of lies!

I am nominated for best latin american weblog with itzpapalotl. Of course many of you will not understand a word because it's all in spanish, but I feel like the worst of all. Is it just my low self-steem?
posted by papalotl at 2:01 PM on January 24, 2002

is it normal, in awards things, for sites/people/whatever to be nominated in many different categories for the same body of work? there are so many repeats that I don't even feel like voting (except for noah and his amazing photos).

you know, oliver has a point... where's the "black"-blog category? i nominate rupaul, oliver, and myself (okay, so i'm not black... but i can dig it, and besides, it's the only way i could ever get in the bloggies.).

musicrag for best music site? Honestly, that site sucks and they never update it.
posted by jasonshellen at 6:22 PM on January 24, 2002

..and they can't close their tags properly either. Again that's musicrag.

I'm still perplexed over the Blog You nomination. Lazy coding, lazy writing, and we get nominated? And what about Tinyblog?

Being a homosexual not in the A-list ranks, I'm going to allege that all their lovers voted for them.

Why am I nominated. Didn't I just take the year off?
posted by Neale at 9:10 PM on January 24, 2002

Neale, you were nominated because you took the year off.

there's a typo on the image link to your site, CrazyUncleJoe.

Where the heck is the Best Posting Whilst Dangerously Inebriated Category?

Hands down, I'm tellin' ya.
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 6:28 AM on January 25, 2002

I can assure you that most of my lovers don't know my name, let alone that i have a website. Plus I'm like celibate now. And anyway they all hate me. Sigh.
posted by barbelith at 6:47 AM on January 25, 2002

Tom, that's why it's important to quiz them regularly. "What's my name?! Who's your daddy?!! Say my name!! Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!"

*notices awkward silence in the thread, looks around warily*

Never mind.

Being a homosexual not in the A-list ranks and who doesn't talk to any former lovers and who, incidentally, was nominated for a category that was not applicable during the time of nominations (I had taken down my cam - and I put it back up yesterday morning when I discovered I was nominated), I don't even know what I *can* allege. Hrm.

what about a best adult weblog category. or do we, as always, require separate awards ceremonies?
posted by titboy at 8:59 PM on January 25, 2002

Best comment so far? Parallax View:

unimaginative selection reveals large swathes of the blogging community to be conservative starfuckers.

My thoughts exactly. Most of the nominees are predictably dull.
posted by mark13 at 1:33 PM on January 26, 2002

Yeah, it's always good to call people unimaginative and conservative when your site features your internet personality test results.
