Can you tell me where that quotation comes from? Someone yells it at the end of the first hidden track on the Roots' The Tipping Point, which I was just listening to this morning, and it has serendipitously shown up on Metafilter just when I was wondering what it was all about.

It's from Jackson's role in A Time To Kill:

D.A.: Do you think men who kidnap a child should be free in 10 years?
Carl Lee: No sir.
D.A.: Do you think two men who rape a child should be free in 10 years?
Carl Lee: No, sir.
D.A.: Do you think two men who hang a child should be free in 10 years?
Carl Lee: No.
D.A.: Well what do you think should happen? What would be a fair sentence?
Jake Brigance: Objection!
D.A.: Do you think they should deserve to die?
Brigance: Carl Lee, don't answer!
D.A.: Do you think they should deserve to die?
Carl Lee: Yes, they deserved to die and I hope they burn in hell!

All I know is that, whenever I enjoy a tasty Samuel L. Jackson Lager, I can't help but start shouting quotes from the Bible and adding Bad Motherfucker to everything I say.

But thanks to Entertainment Weekly (how far has MeFi fallen when EW is FPP'ed?) for giving away some of the movie.

Indeed, it'll fuck you up. You'll be fucking fat bitches in no time! You might even fight a nigga or two.

(Chappelle show, though I dont know why you wouldnt know that unless you dont own a TV, since the advertisement that uses this clip has been EVERYWHERE)

Lighten up, Francis. It's certainly not the first time, and it's not like I'm posting celebrity gossip.

Great. Some of us haven't seen Revenge of the Sith yet. Thank you for the spoiler.

Hey, salmacis, here's another: at the end of Ep3... Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader! *gasp!*

It's not really a spoiler, is it?
I mean, they don't give the hows and whys, and you already know he does.
Otherwise he would show up in A New Hope.

And he wouldn't have spent the last couple years talking in public about how he hopes Lucas doesn't write him a lame death scene.

No, it was Natalie Portman who got the really lame death scene...

ooops!

What, you mean Mace Windu didn't turn short and green and moved to Dagobah?

Goddamnit, there goes my hope in Lucas.

His death in Deep Blue Sea was the best.death.ever.on.film for my money.

What a fun list. I have not seen Episode III yet either, but I am not too shocked to hear that Windu's purple lightsaber is extinguished for good.

If you don't want endings spoiled, then stay the heck off the Internet: In 1999, I was very careful to avoid spoilers for Episode I, but I found out that Qui-Gonn Jinn dies from a joke in a Dave Barry column the previous Sunday. Whoops!

salmacis: have you seen any of the TV commercials where Mace Windu and his fellow knights attempt to arrest Palpatine? It's pretty obvious from the commercial that Palpatine opens up a can of Dark Side on their asses.

Gary Busey is pretty good at getting killed, too. The Firm? Dead. Predator 2? Dead. Point Break? Dead. Lethal Weapon? Dead. Under Seige? Dead. Drop Zone? Dead. Surviving The Game? Dead. Soldier? Dead.

The Buddy Holly Story? Dead.

Not only does Steve Buscemi die in almost every Coen Brothers film in which he appears, but every time he's killed, his body is turned into smaller and smaller pieces.

Oh, and somebody should figure out the death-to-survival ratio of Dennis Hopper, also.

Kinbote: I don't remember the film that well, but are you sure Qui-Gonn Jinn dies from a joke in a Dave Barry column? I thought some bad guy Jedi killed him.

Entertainment Weekly got the details wrong, anyway. So no Mace Windu death spoiler.

They should have left Ol'e Mace alive and used him in the next movies.

Oh god I can't belive I just said that...

No, and I strongly suspect that the reason is that such commercials are not being shown round here. America is not the world.
posted by salmacis at 3:13 PM on May 20, 2005

The commercials and trailers are available on the internet - and as America has deigned to share our internet with the rest of the world, they are available to most interested parties.

True Romance didn't make it on the list? Shame... He had such a bit part in that movie, but that scene is one of the better parts of the movie.

I loved when Mace got swallowed by the shark.

(SirOmega - I own a TV, but that "advertisement" isn't anywhere in Australia. So no, not everybody gets the reference.)

You're both wrong, Qui-Gonn Jinn doesn't die at all. 'Obi-Wan, guess you never will who's only gone and discovered the secret of immortality!' What a crock of shit.

Great. Some of us haven't seen Revenge of the Sith yet. Thank you for the spoiler.

Here's another one. Episode 3 is shit. Sorry if that's ruined it for you.
