This is all over the local news here. The part that many news sources are omitting is that the kid made the first move by approaching it and petting it.

Don't do that. Deer will fuck you up. Or use you as a salt lick.

Also, from what I've heard the deer seem to be a bit numerous this year. I've seen 'em roadside deep in Vancouver and Portland. Just the other night I saw one skittering nervously around a trailer park, obviously lost.

How to hype your cute animal story:

"Oregon Seventh-Grader's Harrowing Tale, in His Own Words"

The solution to the problem, loquacious, is obviously liberal use of guns.

I'm pretty sure it's still illegal to shoot people, even if they are stupid.

Deer seemed pretty polite to me. It was nuzzling his ear in an obvious attempt at foreplay. I bet it would have given the kid a reach-around during the act as well.

Deers jump on the backs of their salt licks?

Sounds more like someone didn't wanted to save the kid from a more likely explanation - you know, to protect the kids.

At least the muthafuckin' deer didn't bite him on the muthafuckin' neck, else he'da needed a bambulance.

Dennis Hastert is preparing to testify before an ethics committee that he had no knowledge about the deer licking the boy.

There's a deer at my kitchen table right now. Using my wi-fi. Fucker didn't even ask.

Yeah? I bet yours is still wearing his pants. Mine went and pinched off the mother of all stinkloafs in my bathtub and is currently munching up all of my secret stash of raisin bran and dark chocolate all while muttering insulting things about my mother.

pinched off the mother of all stinkloafs

I would go with stink 'muffins' or stink 'goobers' or something like that. I've never seen a deer shit anything resembling a loaf. Of course, I've never seen a deer use wifi before either, so anything is possible.

Apparently my dear interloper likes the raisin bran.

What can I say? I do too.

Dear interloper,

Watch your spelling!

Dear interloper,

Watch your spelling!

That was intentional. It's a pun, you see. A very, very bad one. Just bad enough to bring out the Spelling Nazis for identification and, err, recruitment.

However, my spelling has indeed been degrading terribly. I'm looking forward to FF 2.0, indeed.

Better an interloper in your bran, than an anteloper up your shorts.

You laugh now. Wait till the first time a deer chases you for over 7 minutes then has his way with you.

I bet he wouldn't even call the next day.

Deer seem more numerous than usual in the SF Bay area too. I just had one run into my car and leave a big ol' dent.

I recall reading once (can't find this info now) that more people are injured by deer than any other wild animal. I suspect that this includes vehicle accidents, but also "Go stand over there, Timmy, while I take this picture" incidents.

Having recently been stampeded and bitten by numerous deer in Miajima, I advise caution.

But deer steak, mmm...

dreamsign, I think farm raised venison is/are reasonably safe from prion diseases.
posted by BrotherCaine at 5:41 PM on October 26, 2006

The steak comment wasn't related. These aren't farm raised, they're garbage-fed. They roam around and pick through garbage when tourists aren't feeding them. Hmm.
