Found Super 8 film clips reconstruct America from the late 1960s through the 70s.
Mundane things like vintage packaging edit, watching television while model building, and a small town parade that gives a hoot.

I was there. It was fun.
Now is more interesting.

Even this detailed archaeological evidence will never explain whatever the fuck happened in the 80s.

the trachtenburgs have been doing a musical variation on this (with slides, not super8) for a few years now.

That reminds me, I completely missed Super 8 to VHS transfer. It's time to get such fixedgear classics as "Christmas 1967" (Handy Andy tool set) transferred to DVD.

These are terrific! All that sixties signage and Dad cooking tiny weenies on a tiny grill.
I've been hoping to come across more stuff like this since I saw these slightly longer and absolutely charming Super8 videos of Disneyland and San Francisco also filmed during this time period.

Is anyone else thinking Sam Shepard when they watch these?

Seeing old home movies like these makes me feel melancholy, and I can never quite put my finger on the reason why.

Oh that one was an EDIT of packaging. On first viewing it sure seemed like there was a lot of product placement! Awesome. Ah, grated parmesan cheese.

I like how they (Neato Coolville) left in the old-time film projector sound.

I've only ever watched Super 8 films once. I thought it was an eerie medium. The films were cheerful -- a new house, young parents in the late '70s -- but the total soundlessness and lack of illumination made it seem as if I were hallucinating a Polaroid snapshot coming to life.

Man, that shit is f'ing trippy, bro. I was there, but I don't remember any of it as being hallucinogenic in the moment. Well, not as such, anyway. Not to say there weren't hallucinatory moments, of course.
Awesome post.
