More Than A Cookie Enthusiast

Cookie Monster makes an appeal to host Saturday Night Live.

As with Betty White (previously), Cookie Monster has a viral campaign on facebook.

If chosen to host, this would not be Cookie Monster's first appearance on Late Night Television, as he has already appeared on the Colbert Report, after Steven Colbert accused him of abandoning the Cookie Agenda.

100% convinced Sesame Street talked this over at length with NBC before posting the video. But love Cookie Monster and hope he gets his gig.

Ugh this would be a disaster. Unless the Sesame Street people insisted on writing all of Cookie Monsters sketches with zero input from the SNL writers.

I think I'd watch *Elmo* over SNL, let alone Cookie Monster.

If Cookie Monster gets to host SNL, does that mean Bert & Ernie get to make a It Gets Better video?

This is actually at the top of my Grown Up Christmas Wish List.

Put him on there with Kate Perry and I might actually watch SNL for the first time in 20 years.

Yeah, the muppets were a staple of talk shows in the 60s like the Tonight Show etc.

Right on, amethysts. Apparently the muppets only lasted one season on SNL for just that reason, the SNL people were the ones who did the writing and didn't know what to do with those puppet things. *sigh*

See, this is the flip side of the Betty White campaign. Any ol' person/muppet can be campaigned for, and if enough people warrant it, get the spot. Which isn't to say that Cookie Monster still wouldn't be better than January Jones...

Which isn't to say that whatever new thing is forced on SNL wouldn't be an improvement at this point. CLEAN HOUSE, LORNE. START WITH SETH MEYERS.

SNL is still on? I had no idea...

After what happened to Belushi, you'd think his people would want to keep him as far away as possible from this kind of thing.

How will he read the cue cards with those wobbly eyeballs?

Meh.

Now if they'd let Jonmc host, that might be worth watching.

I have to work on Saturdays. As for Cookie Monster, he can fall back on his gig as the lead singer of Korn. Also, SNL has sucked for decades and I'm amazed anyone still cares about it.

Grover seems like a better match for SNL. Cookie Monster has mellowed with age.

The thing that needs saying here is that Cookie Monster is a freaking comic genius. His timing is excellent, his body language is constantly hilarious, he's never out of character. Oh, and HE KILLS. He's been more consistent over more decades than Steve Martin and Tina Fey rolled up together. He's the shit! That he's not been given the Twain is an utter tragedy.

And nobody else can do that thing he does with his eyes, either.

Hey, his impression of Lady Gaga is better than the real thing! But I'm with chairface, Grover would be a better muppet host. Or Snuffy.

I suggest you google "derp derp dog" for an immediate refutation of that statement.

I want a SNL with all Muppets...and with Statler and Waldorf making their usual snarky commentary...

I have to admit I laughed out loud at, "so send this to all your friends... I mean, uh, "FRIENDS"..."

I was praying we'd get to see CM work blue in the video, or at least teal. Drop a few F bombs, stupid monster.

I thought cookies were a sometimes food!

Cookes are sometimes a sometimes food. For instance, when you've run out of them.

Cookie Monster on SNL would be horrible. SNL done entirely by the muppets would be awesome. I just want another 55 minutes of this video.

Legendary SNL writer Michael O'Donoghue was quoted at the time as saying "I don't write for felt."

Atom Eyes: It just goes to show how someone can be great in some ways and entirely clueless in others, at the same time.

...and, I'm just saying I could watch Cookie Monster eat cookies all day.

I would happily settle for just CM. Although a skit with Liz Lemon and Tina Fey would be awesome. As as far as rolling up, I will happily be rolled up with Fey any time, anywhere.

I'm kind of surprised at how unentertaining I found this video. I really wanted to like it, but it left me feeling that Cookie Monster on SNL would be even more awful than SNL without Cookie Monster.

Seconded on the comic timing.

For the first chunk of the sketch, I was pleasantly bemused. Then, he ate the paper clip. Then, I was laughing out loud on my morning bus.

fuck SNL. we need to have a night time Sesame/Muppets with special guests from Ave Q. now that would totally rock.

If it ain't Frank Oz, it ain't Cookie Monster. And I'm pretty sure it ain't Frank Oz anymore, unless this is one of the "couple of times per year" mentioned on Wikipedia.

I can't stand this whole "cookies are a sometimes food" thing. I get that they want to send a healthy message to kids, but why can't they just introduce Veggie Monster? Or, you know, scare kids by telling them that Cookie Monster was a person and he ate too many cookies and look at him now!

It'd really be best if they just took SNL off the air and replaced it with reruns of the Muppet Show.

Old'n'Busted: " I might actually watch SNL for the first time in 20 years"

Eponysterial. No seriously, this is a crying shame. SNL's better than it has been in a very long time, with a deep bench of really good impressionists, parody sketches that are pitch-perfect in tone, and Andy Samberg, who I think is decisively better at funny song making than Adam Sandler ever was. Keenan Thompson and Fred Armistan also stand out among the great cast members.

Watch last week's Thanksgivies sketch, or Middle School Kids or Back to the Future Screen Tests and try not to laugh. These are all just from the last few weeks.

Wow. I guess I haven't actually seen Cookie Monster for twenty years or more. Because my first thought was -- that's not Cookie Monster. That's somebody doing a lame Cookie Monster imitation. How long has he sounded like that?
