American Icons - 2 Pictures of Patriotism Hopefully, this picture will go over better then the Satan in the Smoke article I posted yesterday. Showing these 2 pictures side-by-side shows the patriotism of 2 very different generations, yet, both united in a common bond.

I was reminded of the same image when I saw the fireman's photo in the paper yesterday. Thanks for posting them side-by-side.

They just interviewed the photographer who took Tuesday's picture on the Today show. He is blown away by the attention he is getting and feels a little ashamed. Offers from publishers, etc. Right place at right time. The real heroes are the firefighters, and they should be getting his share of the attention, he says. He said the Iwo Jima image crossed his mind as he was taking his picture.

This picture was presented as "The New Iwo Jima" by the principal of my son's elementary school yesterday - I was there last night for "Curriculum Night."

I just want to point out... I did not put the picture together.

I claim no possesion of it, nor do I claim any credit for putting it together.

It is hosted on a Radio program I listen to, and I don't know where they got it from (someone emailed it to them).

If anyone knows who put the 2 pics together, I would like to know.

Here's an article written by the photographer. Enforces (or is the source of) points mentioned above.
