20 years of war. you hear the phrase, but you don't really fathom it. look at these pictures. this is their seat of power? from where they hold the reins of government? the engine of their economy? we should be cautious, a people living so close to the brink for so long have already demonstrated their resilience.

Pictures of Kabul, 1978. Not Beverley Hills, but closer to a city like Kathmandu than the shell of today.
