Wow. I always thought Dench was a good looking older lady, but to see her years past...Rawr.

Oh-em-gee, the Chris Moore one is wonderful.

Sort of related: Animal Crossing lets you change what the animals call you, give yourself a new nickname, and I was going through a Cabaret phase at the time and since it wouldn't let me use "motherfucker" anyway I used "mein herr", and it caught on, and eventually like half the residents of the town were walking around getting mad at me when I hit them with my shovel and calling me "mein herr".

One of my professors this semester was a dead ringer for Dame Judi. We all lived in fear of her.

Great post, this was fun! Who's Chris Moore? I googled, but it wasn't helpful.

There is nothing like a Dame. I dunno who Chris Moore is either, but he reminds me a lot of (*googles*) Bruce McCulloch from Kids in the Hall.

An article with a prominent still shot of Ms. Dench from 1968. Oh, the article is interesting, too.

I'm really bummed that I'm not finding the bootleg footage of Natasha Richardson as Sally Bowles on YouTube. Riveting, heartbreaking, AMAZING. I watched it the day I heard of her death and cried for the loss of THAT talent.

You forgot the amazing Gina Gershon.

If we're gonna go balls-out Judi, I must submit for your consideration Judi Dench as Lady Macbeth doing the handwashing scene. That primal scream will blow your mind.

Oh my god, you weren't kidding. That was..I don't really have the words. Terrifying and heart-rending all in one?

from "And Furthermore" by Judi Dench (as told to John Miller), 2010:

"[Hal Prince] rang my agent the next day to say he wanted to see me about playing Sally Bowles in his forthcoming production of 'Cabaret.' I thought it was a joke, but Julian said he was quite serious. He took me out to lunch first, before I went to the audition, and I had a glass of wine, because I was absolutely petrified when I went into the theatre and had to sing for Hal. I said, 'If you don't mind, I think I'll sing it from the wings.' It was my first musical, and I was amazed to get the part, but I learnt an awful lot from the doing it, especially from Hal, who must be one of the best directors of musicals ever."

The thing I love most about Cabaret is the dancing...the isolation of movement and absurd-unsexy sexy poses...Fosse was amazing.

If I had a spirit animal I'm fairly sure it would take the form of Judi Dench.

Or Patricia Routledge as Hyacinth Bucket.

I made a "Chaos Reigns" video out of that Dench Macbeth scene.
