Bernard Pras’ Amazing Assemblages

French artist Bernard Pras arranges objects to look like images of other things when viewed from afar. For example, he’s recreated Hyacinthe Rigaud’s portrait of Louis XIV using toilet paper and junk food. You can view his portfolio by clicking on the galerie link on his website.

Clothes do make the Man, n'est-ce pas? Imagine this lackluster group all decked out in similar fashion.

Yes, cenoxo! The tragedy of modern life has been the simplification of clothing. While it is nice that a peasant and a National leader can approximate the same look quite easily (dark suit, tie, and white shirt) I am sorry that there isn't more opportunity for splendor and art. There was an attempt in the 60's to break out of the rigid mold introduced back in the Edwardian era and I fondly remember the velvet jackets, paisley waistcoats and frilled shirts worn by the young men of my youth, but then the 80's came and people went back to be dull and serious.

Still, I much prefer dull and serious to tank tops and shorts-- which is what you see outside the office. Too bad we don't have Casual, Office, and Special Occasions. I would love to see really magnificent men on the Red Carpet or a Splendid Groom to match the Blushing Bride.

toilet paper and junk food.

It would be cooler if all that junk food contained Olestra.

Reminds me of the "Big Art Attack" scenes from Neil Buchanan's kids show "Art Attack".

This one is my favorite.

Wow. Thanks so much for posting this.

I'm getting a strong Expressionist flavor from a lot of these. Is that Pras' deliberate technique, or is it inherent in his medium?
