The Hyperloop is intriguing, but has all the vagueness of a scam.

Well, I assembled one of these as a kid, so I feel like I've done my part.

My first thought was, how would you dispose of sewage in an undersea colony so that when you go outside to weed your kelp-garden you don't find your community completely shrouded in poop smog? It's different when you're in a submarine and can dump it and just run away laughing.

You could construct big pipelines to transport it elsewhere on the ocean floor but I realized that you could also run the pipeline up to the surface and thanks to the pressure differential, if you set it up right you wouldn't need a pump at all and it would just spew a continuous fountain of sewage onto land. Which would be a great counterpoint to how we usually dump it into the sea.

Hopefully we'll have the good sense to make Michael Ironside captain sooner this time around.

I wonder if they'll need a protein chemist who used to do algae work...

Needs more talking dolphins.
Or Patrick Duffy.

I, er, am too sad to read the links because this isn't about SeaQuest DSV, but I used to dream of living in an undersea city as a kid.

Irony: what if they freeze dried the sewage underwater?

(And then what? I dunno. Pour it into a volcano or something?)

There's a strong current in most parts of the open ocean. Just don't build your city directly downstream from another one.

Ocean gyre. Note that the "See Also" list includes two Garbage Patches.
