Man to beast

Charles Fréger traveled though 19 European countries over a two year period searching for still-practiced pagan rituals, particularly ones involving tranformations of man to beast, and documenting them photographically. The pictures have been published as a monograph, Wilder Mann: The Image of the Savage, and the series is currently on view in New York at the Yossi Milo Gallery. Selected photos at Slate. Additional selections at High Life. Larger set at Le Journal de Photographie.

The collection inspired an album of music by composer Teho Teardo — selection.
