I really want someone to do the Dark Judges, and do them properly.

Alex Garland talked doing the Dark Judges for the third film if Dredd did well at the box office and became a trilogy.

Sadly it didn't.

TBH I wonder if they might have the same problem that the Hellraiser podcast mentioned regarding the cenobites - they look really cool, but probably not aren't all that mobile, and don't even have much in the eay of ramged weaponry, so they'd be standing around looking creepy and making portentous proclamations about the crime being life etc. but then they'd just sort of shuffle about until shot.

I never understood why Dredd has failed to get a good foothold in the US, despite being awesome. I'm actually watching Dredd at the gym these days, and it's really not bad at all. Lots of worse stuff gets made into franchises, and new we're missing out on Judge Death! Damn you, America!

I only have a vague passing awareness of the Judge Dredd 'verse, but that was pretty easy to follow and pretty damned good too. I enjoyed it! I definitely wasn't quite sure what the invisible beasts were all about but it didn't take away from the story and is making me want to check out the comics now, too.

Oh and to note that the way in which the world was presented was some right proper dystopianism that has been sorely missing in film/TV for quite some time.

Oh, and if you check the Credits of Dredd the fan film gets a mention, which is rather nice. The credits also start with JOHN WAGNER and CARLOS EZQUERRA in big, big letters. No hard fought shameful admission that the character was actually created by anyone there a take note, Marvel and DC.

Was that Chopper in the opening credits? Nice. Definitely need to watch this.

Hmm.. I love the Dredd world as much as anyone, but that seemed like 3 minutes of Mega City plus a bad zombie movie.

Dredd sequel coming, but not as film

What made that movie great, though, wasn't the story (which was still solid as these things go, I hasten to add) but the portrayal by Karl Urban. Alas.

You can do the Dark Judges justice, and they can be quick if they need to be. Just follow the original storylines. Death first, Anderson's sacrifice, then enter the rest of the judges, get them to kill off a citiblock or two, then "gaze in the fist of Dredd".

America likes its heroes straight and quasifascist, not actually fascist and satirical.

Some Americans miss the satire and want him to be a straight-up facist hero.

I hadn't realized it, but the writer of the fan film is actually Michael Carroll, who has emerged from fandom as very solid writer of Dredd stories in recent years.
