This post was deleted for the following reason: Am I missing something or is this article not available? A single abstract isn't really much to go on for a MeFi post. -- jessamyn
That's... Just great. You go, Science.

Soon it will cross mutate with another virus and then BAM! Airborne HIV.
Just like in OMNI magazine, all those years ago.

BUT WHY
Some people, apparently, can't stand to see a guinea pig happy.

I'm serious, unless you are scientists imprisoned in dormant volcano supervillain lairs, why do shit like this? Blasdelb get your ass in this thread and explain WHY.

BUT WHY
So that now they can methodiclly test countermeasures in a controlled environment, on a civilized sleep schedule, rather than (say) during the live-fire exercise of an actual pandemic?

Yeah, the title of this post is misleading and inflammatory. If someone else doesn't step up to patiently explain the reasons that scientists tend to do all sorts of "dangerous" work in the name of research and progress, I'll do it when I'm not on a phone. I'm sure others can do a more comprehensive job, but I ain't letting the bullshit title (and therefore framing) stand.
