That was just weird, obviously there's a reference I don't get and/or it's just lame.

Sadly, I've met old "spooks" that are that obnoxious. It's just not that far from reality.

Video description:
WIRED's new animated series takes you inside the secretive world of a slightly askew NSA, with the eccentric Agent Topple, played by John Hodgman, and his young hacker protégé, Nicole Winters.OK, technically, how did they make that video? Because it looks like they shot video of people and then ran it through the cartoonerator to... do what? Make it palatable for people who will only watch cartoons?

Haha, "faux intellectual" hasn't been done this well since Frasier. Funny only if you think irony is difficult.

The animation reminded of "Get Your War On" (as does the content). Not a bad thing.

I love "Get Your War On". But if they already have John Hodgman doing the voice, why not video of John Hodgman? Is it so he can just phone it in?

The rotoscoping reminds me of A Scanner Darkly, which I suppose is appropriate.

Oooh good timing. I finished Bored to Death sesason 3 yesterday evening and many of my favorite moments featured John Hodgman as Louis Green. If you're a fan of Hodgman and haven't seen Bored to Death, check it out. He appears every season in 2 or 3 episodes and he's always delightful even though his character is kind of an asshole.

It's not a coincidence. David Rees (creator of GYWO) was involved in creating Codefellas.
Unrelated: for more than a moment, I was very confused why this post was labeled Single Link New York Times.
