Always great to see musicians having as much or more fun than their audience.

Great stuff. I was a huge fan of Darnell's groups back in the day; the general public disappointed me once again by failing to make successes of them (see also: The Blasters, The Ramones). Since you unaccountably omitted their great hymn to the structure of oppression ("The authorities agree that if anyone should eat it should be the upper class"), here 'tis:

Kid Creole & The Coconuts - No Fish Today (live at the Rockpalast II in Essen, Germany, 1982)

I used to produce and host music shows for KRAB, a Seattle community FM station back in the 70s -- one of the few independents that predated NPR. I got into Savannah Band because no one ever stole their records. Too weird, too disco for when punk and new wave were just breaking. I borrowed Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett one night and tha was all she wrote.

And, now, having looked up their discography on Wikipedia, let me add Savannah Band is Waiting for You, American...

One of the delights of finding these clips is seeing Cory Daye.

...And one of the sorrows is seeing the late Stony Browder in his prime.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person who loved his music, but of course I'm not. Thank you for this post. I'll be digging through these links and enjoying them all day!

I’m a casual Kid Creole fan but I didn’t know about Dr. Buzzard. Thanks.

I absolutely love Dr Buzzard. That first album is in my top five of all time. So much heart, joy, finesse, soul, melody and style.

I think I clocked on to them because De La Soul sampled Hard Times, or maybe when Ghostface sampled Cherchez La Femme but I took to that album and its never let me go

here's another video i found just a few days ago (i dont think its in the FPP) where they play a medley of (yet again) I'll Play the Fool and Cherchez La Femme. So much joy in their show!

But what I would do to see a vid of them playing Hard Times or Night and Day
