That Sinosauropteryx image is astonishing, really exquisite.

This is a wonderful way for my proto-paleontologist 8 year old and I to spend Sunday morning on the sofa. Thank you!

The "new" dinosaur, with its feathers and warm blood (and implicitly, far greater cunning) is SO much cooler than my childhood dinos.

A new Jurasic Park is going to be a mess, and not a hot mess. But we do need something like the original to push along the process in the public imagination.

Greater cunning is nice, but I am enjoying imagining T Rex linage displays and mating dances!

That should be "plumage displays." Autocorrect is the very devil.

My childhood is fine? Huh? Dinosaurs with feathers are EVEN COOLER.

"These two tyrannosaurs had thick, fluffy, downy feathers ..."

They sound so cuddly!

My childhood was ruined with the whole Brontosaurus betrayal, thank you very much!

Not only do feathers make dinosaurs even cooler, it makes them even scarier! My six pound dog is dumb enough to think she can eat pit bulls, but even she knows not to make eye contact with a goose. And then you think how much scarier an angry goose would be if it had teeth...

Also, since it's weird and tangentially related, this is what a chicken looks like when a bunch of new feathers are growing in.

The problem with science is you turn away for one minute and stuff's already outta date. I got your fuzzed out Ornithischian right here: Kulindadromeus! Just look at the cute little critter!

Feathery fuzz also showed up earlier on the Theropod side of things. The Megalosauroid Sciurumimus had a big fluffy squirrel tail!

And my childhood may be fine, but this still belongs here.

Me, I just love how much weirder modern reconstructions of dinosaurs look than they did when I was a kid.

French cartoonist Boulet pushes Jurassic Park possibly a little too far...

Blue Jello Elf: My childhood was ruined with the whole Brontosaurus betrayal, thank you very much!

Amazingly, that betrayal took place over a century ago. It says something about our science education that we were still being taught "brontosaurus" when I was a kid in the 80s.

Uhhh, even when I was a kid and Jurassic park was all the rage, those of us who bothered to get interested in anything heard these animals had feathers. I've been waiting my entire life for feathered dinos to become the norm in pop culture, but even the new JP movie keeps the dumb featherless type. They get kind of a pass since theyre technically frog-dinosaurs but still.
