Freddy Krueger vs. Spiderman? I'd buy that for a dollar.

Obviously the most powerful fictional weapon is Rust Cohle's nihilism.

Also that really big gun the Joker used in Michael Keaton's Batman.

Beatrix was robbed. That's Hatori steel. And no Ash from "Army of Darkness"? Inconceivable.

How is "virtually indestructible" a weakness of Captain America's shield or Mjolnir? While we're at it, how is "very few" a weakness of the Iron Man armor? He's got like forty and how many are you gonna wear at once.

It's fun to think of ones that aren't included. Some that care to mind:

* The Gristle Gun made out of weird bones in ExistenZ
* The Phantasm death orb
* The Weirding Module
* Dredd's Lawgiver
* The ZF-1 from The Fifth Element
* The Ultimate Nullifier
* The Mars Attacks! ray guns that turn people into green skeletons

The Fallout selection really should have been the Railway Rifle, and the Half-Life selection should have been the gravity gun (or the Portal gun, if it counts as a weapon).

What a weird way to spell Rock-It Launcher.

They chose a fricking phaser over a bat'leth for Star Trek? Whole list is invalid.

I am not even a KotRT fan, but no Excalibur? And I guess David's sling is too controversial?

Well, 50+% of these are utterly wrong as is only proper for pop culture lists of this sort, so no complaints there. Love the art and some of the non-obvious picks (Shaun's Cricket Bat, yeah!).

Worth noting that tyrants, empires, galaxies, nay whole other realities have trembled before that cruellest, most implacable of threats: "Would you like a jelly baby?"

Cap's shield can deflect Mjolnir and take a direct punch from the Hulk without the bearer being harmed in either case. List is utterly bogus.

I think they are trying to say that Cap's shield and Mjolnir have no weaknesses, and that the suit is also largely free of weakness. Which well is pretty lazy and also obviously not very clear to anyone.

- Green Lantern Ring
- Cosmic Cube
- Anti-Life Equation
- Point of View Gun

and Hellboy's real weapon is his indestructible Right Hand of Doom.

My personal favorite weapon is the C-plus cannon from Fred Saberhagen's Berserker novels. It is a huge gun mounted on space battleships, and its projectiles have their own faster-than-light drives. They skip in and out of hyperspace like a torpedo on water, to approach their target faster than light. Due to relativity, the target (an evil space robot) is hit before it even has a chance to see the projectile coming, and instead sees the trace flash backwards towards the ship that fired it after the fact, as the light from the approach finally reaches it.

Huh, I always preferred fictional megaweapons like the Death Star Laser or the Genesis Device to the handheld, but that just may be my Cold War upbringing talking.

Lazy gun, as mentioned upthread. Beyond that, when you're getting into second tier weapon, no love for the reality bomb, the One Ring or the De-Mat gun? Or the weapon that started the improbably giant cannon archetype, Battleship Yamamoto?

List, as is inevitable, is woefully incomplete.

This list is missing way too many obvious things. Think of United States Marines in a Godforsaken swamp...
"Their trucks and tanks and howitzers are wallowing," he complained, "sinking in stinking miasma and ooze."
He raised a finger and winked at me. "But suppose, young man, that one Marine had with him a tiny capsule containing a seed of ice-nine, a new way for the atoms of water to stack and lock, to freeze. If that Marine threw that seed into the nearest puddle...?"
"The puddle would freeze?" I guessed.
"And all the muck around the puddle?"
"It would freeze?"
"And all the puddles in the frozen muck?"
"They would freeze?"
"And the pools and the streams in the frozen muck?"
"They would freeze?"
"You bet they would !" He cried. "And the United States Marines would rise from the swamp and march on!"
