The Sans Halen Tour? Former Van Halen frontmen David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar are reportedly discussing a possible summer tour together. They met for the first time recently and are now in talks to team up. Hagar broke the news this week on his official website, saying, "Believe it or not, Sammy and David Lee Roth are talking about touring this summer. Sammy was blown away at how well they got along together." A spokesman for Diamond Dave confirmed only that the two exes "have met for the first time." But Hits magazine is reporting that superstar manager Irving Azoff has signed on for "The Sam and Dave Show."

No matter how bad this tour might be, it's still gonna be better than seeing Van Halen with Gary Cherone. Heck...watching squirrels defacate is more interesting than Van Halen with Gary Cherone. These boys need to realize that Dave sucks without Eddie, Eddie sucks without Dave, and Sammy and Gary suck no matter who they're teamed with.

Sounds like a match made in heaven. All Sammy needs is a pair of assless pants and he and Dave can be twinsies.

Btw I like Van Halen Mark I as much as the next guy, but I also like Van Halen Mark II. Sammy gave us 5150, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, how can you ignore that?

I like Gary Cherone, I used to be a huge fan of Extreme ( I still listen to III Sides every now and again and own some of Nuno's solo work ). He has a fantastic range and good phrasing for a rock singer. Why all the hatred?

also, fwiw, I think 'Balance' is one of Eddies better albums as a rhythm player, plus his tone isn't as processed as it was on F.U.C.K or OU812.

As an Sammy fan pre, during, and post Van Halen, it always amuses me the hackles that he still manages to raise with the DLR camp.

Yeah I like III Sides To Every Story too, it's a nice album, and I've got nothing against Gary per se, I just think he didn't fit in Van Halen.
I like what I've heard from Nuno's solo stuff.

I could care less about Dave's solo career. And, if you're a Sammy fan, I wouldn't gloat too much about solo careers. Sammy's post-Van Halen work has been pretty useless.

Of course, I'm more worried about the fact that this tour is going on in the first place.

I'll be there. Sammy's "Two Sides of Love" is one of my favorite tunes from High School and (although I missed it) I hear Roth OWNED Bumbershoot 2001!
Summer is coming and Van Halen is the only soundtrack you need!

This is exactly why, at 44, I now play jazz guitar and not rock. I would be so, so, embarassed to be standing in front of people singing "Hot for Teacher" at my age.

It still doesn't save me from being an embarrassment to my children, but then what would?

I find that playing blues guitar is a great way to rock gracefully into my dotage. I have no problem imagining John Lee Hooker singing Hot For Teacher. Uh-Hawhawhawhaw.

Sammy Hagar was a world-class, all-time schmuck. Not a bozo who knew he was a bozo and had a wonderful time that way (like, say, Diamond Dave), but just an utter schmuck. You knew all along that Sammy really, deep down, was a right-wing, conventional-minded bizzer who took himself seriously, who couldn't stand making fun of himself, let alone being made fun of.

Here's a good standard: Can you imagine Sammy Hagar enjoying Iggy Pop? He'd probably want Iggy to get a voice coach -- he'd say he wasn't "professional" enough. Schmuck, schmuck, schmuck. (David Lee, on the other hand, would probably want to hop up onstage with Ig for a singalong.)

I guess you've never heard "Unchained," "D.O.A.," "Somebody Get Me a Doctor," "Mean Streets," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" or "Everybody Wants Some." I highly recommend them.

I was at work, mlang. But your wish is my command. I actually heard this on the radio driving to work this morning and I'll definitely pass on this tour.
VH at their best, was one of those "chemistry is everything" type of deals, without Dave's humor and exuberance Eddie wandered off into twaddle-land and without Eddie's chops and rock instincts, Dave became Milton Berle in spandex. But together they were fantastic, no kegger in my high school days was complete without at least one playing of "Ain't Talking 'Bout Love" or my old fave "Ice Cream Man."
Hagar is a good singer with Montrose and on his own, but he didn't grab ya the way Diamond Dave did. He makes a bad-ass tequila though.
As for Cherone...Extreme had one use and one use only. "More Than Words" was what we used to put on to show the chicks how "sensitive" we were so they'd let us make out with them. Otherwise, they suck.

Not to really get into the DLR versus Hagar debate, but consider the following:

With DLR: Unchained, Atomic Punk, Runnin' With The Devil.
With Hagar: Love Walks In, Why Can't This Be Love, When It's Love.

You decide. All I remember is jumping all over the place when Dave walked out with the band at the MTV awards (or whatever it was) a few years ago. Shame he's such a dick.
