I liked the earlier ones, when they were more realistic.

YESTERDAY I was like "Hmm. I wonder if they did the last DHMIS yet" and they hadn't, and I forgot that it's always Jun 19 in them.

A fitting end. They lost me a bit with the latest episodes, but I still regularly return to the song of episode 3.

Yeah, but this time they have the Horn of Eld, so they should be fine.

It's like if Lord Morpheus from the Sandman series was pissed off at a bunch of puppets and sentenced them to Eternal Nightmare Puppet Hell. Is it wrong that this just makes me shrug? Dark and Edgy Takes on Kid Media is not exactly a new idea.

I did find the series impressive technically, but am really irritated that none of the articles I've seen talk about the skill it takes to create all those characters and sets that look like they came from an actual kid TV series--did one of the creators work in that field? If not, who actually designs them? Did they work on an actual show? Because that seems like the most interesting part of the whole thing, how well they "get" the aesthetic.

Did they work on an actual show?

The videos have extensive credits, especially the later ones (also on imdb, e.g. full cast for episode 5), so yes, sure looks like it. It's basically them and a bunch of folks from Blink.

It's fascinating to read the baroque fan theories about what it all means. People posit a carefully planned out multiverse where everything fits together and Yellow Guy's dad has a whole complicated backstory and Red Guy's transcendental breakthrough hinges on what it means to be a Special One and... Whereas to me, this looks like a superb example of something created specifically without an overarching narrative in which it all makes logical sense. The very impossibility of piecing it all together is a big part of why it's so unsettling and effective. (The "Look, puppets but with meat and violence!" shock-value side of things is much less interesting than the moments when the form itself ruptures.) I wonder to what extent that's just me getting old and lacking the energy for wild-eyed literary speculation though.

I love the theories since the whole things screams for a sense of coherence. There is too much threaded through it to avoid the instinct of connections.
The emergence of our awareness of ROY, the cyclical implications, the loving nods to all sorts of creativity.

I think it's as fun to project meaning upon as it is to delight in the craft and breaking of conventions.
I don't think anyone was really interested or shocked by the "meat" stuff after the first episode, anyways.

So I just figured it out.

Now that the show is over, Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Bird are all released from their endless purgatory of June 19th. But time doesn't work for them the same way it does for us.

We've already seen what Red Guy is doing - suddenly, we've discovered that there's been a fifth Young One "since the first episode". Or there has been one ever since the final edit of DHMIS6 set Red Guy free. I hope he's enjoying being on the periphery of the cartoon violence, rather than in the middle of it. Poor guy could use a break.

What Yellow Guy and Bird Guy are doing, I don't know.

Clearly this is the one true reading of this fourth-wall-breaking series, rather than some bullshit that popped into my head when I was stoned.

I kickstarted this.

A while back I got into puppetry. I wanted to do something like this. More singular skits, and less ongoing story, but various puppet videos.

Then I found Glove & Boots and then DHMIS came out and I got intimidated. I knew I wouldn't be as good as either of these, since I don't have such a pool of talent, funding, or the time to put into such a production. The sets and costuming alone is beyond me.

I am jealous, but proud I helped make this happen. I'll throw more cash at them if they decide to do more.

God this is so amazing on so many levels. The scariest thing about it is that I've never seen it before that's just highly unlikely.

I'm devastated the series is over but glad that it went out on a high note. (I ponied up for the Kickstarter as well.) I look forward to whatever Becky and Joseph come up with next.

I refuse to read any fan theories or watch any "DHMIS explained" videos because I doubt they'll add anything to a work so ineffable and inscrutable. That said, allow me to present undeniable evidence that these videos are directly related to the flesh interfaces described by _9MOTHER9HORSE9EYES9...
