This is my introduction to the genre of pirate documentary. Given how much interview material gets produced, generally with only a short-term vision, it seems like a great idea.

I just like the fact she tries to channel Mariah Carey.

Good ol' Frank Grimes. It's kind of weird they made a documentary about him, but hey, to each is own.

She's the best. My favorite live performance: Be A Body on KEXP.

I kind of hate to say it, but when she performs live it almost seems as though she can't... sing.

Great post, this is something that I kept expecting to get bored with and turn off as I'm not big into documentaries generally, but I thought it was really engaging throughout. It helps that I love Grimes and I looooove the Visions album.

My Dad, that's a reason I've never seen her live in fact. Not that she can't sing, but that I worry that I love her album work so much that seeing her live would be such a let down compared to what I do love on those albums.

Carillon, I actually saw her this past weekend. She puts on a helluva show. The production and music are top notch and she can, for the most part, hit all the notes. If you get the chance, see her! You won't regret it.

That's one of the things I love about that performance, she starts out a bit shaky and then kills it.

I get the impression that she doesn't enjoy performing for a big colosseum.
She is a good composer.

Thank you for this! I enjoyed Oblivion quite a bit when first hearing it, and have just utterly fallen in love with Art Angels - I can't stop listening to the album, and Flesh, Without Blood is one of the best pop songs I've heard in a LONG time.

It's great to see a case like her where someone engineers their own success by just being good and doing what they want to do, instead of falling into the music machine.
