Awwwww Cute meets Ewwww Puns

For four years now, artist Piper Thibodeau has created a charmingly cute painting every day and posted it to her Deviant Art gallery and her Tumblr, as well as a Twitter account showing 'work in progress'.

Starting with various cartoonish creatures (many of them pokemons), then interpretations of other familiar characters, plus real animals, and a few people and landscapes, the daily 'Cryptid Creations' have led to professional work including character design for major animation studios. Meanwhile. the Dailies have gotten more original and are now dominated by animal-based puns.

The whimsy was kicked into high gear on Pi Day 2015, followed by Earth Day and Canada Day, and the visual punning started simple, with a Box Turtle, a Dande-Lion, a Banana Slug, a Quesa-Dillo and a Golden Retriever. The wordplay escalated with the Mini-Taur, a Bagele, a Saucesquatch, the obvious but still fun Thesaurus, Jurassic Pork, a different kind of Honey Badger, a Chocolate Chipmunk, a Knightingale, Corn on the Cobra, Otter Space (adorning the cover of her first book of Daily Paintings, which just completed a successful Kickstarter), an Alligrater, a Kimono Dragon, a Pea-Cock, a Patchy-Derm, an Avocato, for St. Patrick's Day a Leoparchaun (well, I like it), a Flameingo, a Ham-ster, a Hall Monitor Lizard, Wasabee, The Three Muskrateers, Axe-lotl, Pandara's Box, a Cerbearus, a Pho-nix, even a low-quality JPEGasus. A very personal daily when she Grad-HOO-ated college, followed by such goodies as a Ba-nyan-a Split, Toucandy, the Hypnopotamus, Lunchadors, The Hoppit, The Royal Canadian Mounatee Police, the Parrotchute, Hodormouse, Koalafied, a Plaidypus, a Dodoze, Woofles, a Flap-Jackalope, Escargoat, a Pandawan, Bagel Tigers, the SockNess Monster, Aristurtle, Susheep and Pupsicles. And more to come - every day.

She related the importance of the daily routine to her success in this interview.

Those bagel tigers look like they might be too chewy. I the sense that they would have an excessively chewy mouth feel, but also in the sense that they might chew you excessively.

I must note that today's painting, on National Dog Day, was perfect: Melon-Collie.
